bunraku Posted May 18, 2015 Posted May 18, 2015 Hi Just doing the A2A training missions with the 2 SU-25's ahead of you. The instruction is to slew your TGP on to one of them, but as there is no indication on the HUD where my TGP is looking at it's next to impossible. One time I lucked out and managed to get it on the other plane, but even When set as SPI I got no SPI designation on the HUD? Anyway I can get them with the Mk1 eyeball, but am finding the TGP useless in A2A as one can't work out where it's pointing an two even when it locks something I see the lock in the TGP TV display, but nowhere in the HUD. So am I doing things wrong? Thanks P.S I know the planes not designed for A2A. It just annoys me!! :)

I believe the tutorial is not correct or clear about the terminology. I've used one of the checklists here available for download, can't remember the author, but he compiled a set of checklists for startup, weapon employment etc. which is a great read and help. The rare occasions I use AIMs and it's always to do with making a HUD-reticle get close to an air threat. No TGP usage at all, which makes sense to me, considering the nature of manouevering a lot. The AIM missiles have a seeker you can uncage to relieve your workload additionally. This seeker is displayed as a reticle on the HUD. It can be slewed and set to auto-seek. There is also audible feedback on the lock status, which I really appreciate.
bunraku Posted May 18, 2015 Author Posted May 18, 2015 Yeah I have no problem with the AIM-9 reticules and getting it on a target if I can see it by eye. But it would be nice if the TGP could hook the bandit like a friendly and give me a location in the air if I lose sight of the target.
Kimi_uy Posted May 18, 2015 Posted May 18, 2015 (edited) To aim with the TGP in A-A mode you can depress the piper to 41 mils, which is the TGP boresight. You do this with the "DEPR" rocker switch in the UFC and the number of mils can be read on the left side of the HUD somewhere below the airspeed. EDIT: canged the mils to 41 :p Edited May 18, 2015 by Kimi_uy [sIGPIC]][/sIGPIC] Fuel Planning Tool | DCS: A-10C SADL MOD | Kimi's Arma 3 Mods | Twitch.tv
fltsimbuff Posted May 18, 2015 Posted May 18, 2015 I thought the training mission mentioned the lack of a TGP indicator, and that you should adjust the depressible pipper to boresight with the TGP and use that. I may be thinking of something I read on the forum though. Here's some details: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=1000591#post1000591
