Owl Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 I have seen on some fighter aircraft, that the pilots names are on the side of the aircraft, just below the canopy. I have there fore some questions about that. 1. Does it mean that it's only that pilot who flies that particular aircraft? 2. If #1 is yes, is it the same in both active duty (war) and in peace time? 3. In generel, does the pilots always fly the excact same aircraft, or do they just take the the first in the row? 4. In bigger countries, how many pilots are there normal to each aircraft? (fighter aircraft)
Scrape Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 Although the pilots name are on the side of the aircraft, pilots fly aircraft available according to maintenance status. Little effort if any is made to put a pilot in "their aircraft". Perhaps for a DV of significant rank, but again only if its available in the line up for that day. "It's amazing, even at the Formula 1 level how many drivers still think the brakes are for slowing the car down."
Cupra Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 There are also countries that have more jets then pilots :D DCS F-16C Blk. 40/42 :helpsmilie: Candidate - 480th VFS - Cupra | 06
Owl Posted May 25, 2015 Author Posted May 25, 2015 Well, if let's say USAF pilots are deployed in Afghanistan. How many pilots to each fighter aircraft? 1:1, 1:2 or 1:4 or? And again, will will the same pilots fly the same aircraft again and again, if it is possible?
Eddie Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 Well, if let's say USAF pilots are deployed in Afghanistan. How many pilots to each fighter aircraft? 1:1, 1:2 or 1:4 or? Specifics like that vary a lot, besides such details are not the kind of thing that should be made available in the public domain. And again, will will the same pilots fly the same aircraft again and again, if it is possible? It's never (incredibly rarely) possible, apart from in specific circumstances such as display pilots flying dedicated display aircraft. In short, pilots fly what is available/they are told to fly.
