skunk160 Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 has there been any indication that this will be easier for pit builders? more universal across modules ? skunk160 | Win10 PRO 64bit | i7-4770K 3.50 GHz | 32GB DDR3/1866MHz | GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 1080 x2 | Oculus Rift S | Virpil MongoosT-50CM2 | Virpil F-14B grip | Virpil 200m Curved Extension | PointCTRL | Delta Sim TM Slew | Sim Bandit AHCP | MFG Crosswind Pedals | //FOX2 Switch Boxes | RECARO SPG Seat | AuraSound AST-2B-4 Pro Bass Transducer x2 //FOXTWO Multi-Role Combat Pit Build http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=134745
McMicha Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 I hope, Matt answer on my question in the next DCS 2.0 Twitch Stream. My question to Matt. agrasyuk Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 At the moment gauges is basically stream of data from export lua script + viewports of items like rwr. Unless I missed I didn't hear anything on that. Since W2 deals mostly with graphics I hope that viewport extraction will not stay broken for to long after release. Lua side should not change, but there is always things that can go from bad to worse... The question i would ask Matt is about plans for instrumentation client that listens to that export.Lua , alike helios, made by ED. the level of technical difficulty is trivial compared to making a full fledged module. I'm not really sure why one does not yet exist. Team clearly should see a need for one - last I seen their demonstration pit in Moscow suburbia office uses a somewhat crude solution for MIP (not to offend the forum member who made it to the best of his abilities ) on second monitor. Hopefully we will see Helios2 eventually. Anton. My pit build thread . Simple and cheap UFC project
skunk160 Posted June 26, 2015 Author Posted June 26, 2015 "I'm not really sure why one does not yet exist. cefs Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 This is not a flight sim built for pit builders and I cant remember ever seeing anything like helios in any other sim. I would be very surprised to see anything more than we already have, and apart from texture exporting not working I think its good enough, there is a consistent interface to state data through lua, and its got to be the easiest sim to interface to, have a look at xplane and fsx/p3d.
agrasyuk Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 Im not sure what is your point . other Sims providong less acomodation for pit building doesn't mean this one can't. it will not require a lot of effort to write a desktop network client that will listen to already existing export (known to developer first hand) and reuse already existing 3d assets. Packaged and sold as expansion module I'm sure I'm not the only one who will buy it ( And BTW, aside of several freeware FSX has(or had) project magenta - quite elaborate software gauge and glass cockpit suite. (For a hefty price). It also has custom gauge building suites. So enough options to interface to FSX do exist. Anton. My pit build thread . Simple and cheap UFC project
cefs Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 My point is that ED produce a flight sim, same as xplane and fsx, they are not really concerned with the pit building side of things, as you pointed out, that side of things such as project magenta are 3rd party efforts, its easy enough already to extract state data through lua scripting, why would ED make more work for themselves, its not necessary, they have already provided a convenient way to do it.
agrasyuk Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 Honda produces vehicles, why would they make more work for themself developing brand accessories for their vehicles? They don't have to be conserned with that . But they are for a reason - as a for profit organization they interested to make profit, directly from sales off accesories and indirectly by adding value to their main product. Gauge accessory software is not nessesery limited to few pit builders. It will be quite a value add. Imagine ordinary desktop keyboard-joystick flyer running this on extra laptop he has. Perhaps for some strange reason this is not something that of interest to you, but you surely could see others use something like that. And first and foremost ED themself on their demo pit. Helios as good as it is has a lot of room for improvement. Anton. My pit build thread . Simple and cheap UFC project
cefs Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 I understand where you are coming from and there is no harm in asking, but I just cant see ED doing that, it would not be something that I would expect of them from experience of other sims. If the demand was there some one would be selling it already.

"This is not a flight sim built for pit builders" really?? HELIOS is outstanding, I bought it before it went freeware, but it stopped being developed 2 years ago all i asked was if there was any info on anything new from Ed on the gauge export side I had missed skunk160 | Win10 PRO 64bit | i7-4770K 3.50 GHz | 32GB DDR3/1866MHz | GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 1080 x2 | Oculus Rift S | Virpil MongoosT-50CM2 | Virpil F-14B grip | Virpil 200m Curved Extension | PointCTRL | Delta Sim TM Slew | Sim Bandit AHCP | MFG Crosswind Pedals | //FOX2 Switch Boxes | RECARO SPG Seat | AuraSound AST-2B-4 Pro Bass Transducer x2 //FOXTWO Multi-Role Combat Pit Build http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=134745
outlawal2 Posted June 30, 2015 Posted June 30, 2015 Maybe someone should contact the folks that provide interfaces for FSX/P3D and see if they would be interested in providing a solution for DCS? As already stated, ED provides the framework, what is needed now is someone to come in and utilize it like Helios did.. Since this would be a pay module, I would expect the end product to be user friendly / easy to use and setup.. "Pride is a poor substitute for intelligence." RAMBO

agrasyuk Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 (edited) Yes. subscribed to it as well. It's great that there is another way to comfortably configure viewports . But Unless I missed it I didn't hear the author had intensions to make it into full instrumentation client. Even if he does he still doesn't own ED's gauge 3d art and will need to come up with his own which is less then ideal. Maybe someone should contact the folks that provide interfaces for FSX/P3D and see if they would be interested in providing a solution for DCS? Chances are very good that folks that "provide interfaces" are well aware of DCS existance. Again though , they don't own ED's gauge 3d assets. What I did though is PMed Andrey Chizh with link to this thread. Not holding my breath, but hope he will chime in at some point Edited July 1, 2015 by agrasyuk Anton. My pit build thread .
