feefifofum Posted August 2, 2015 Posted August 2, 2015 (edited) In a past mission of mine, players have had to destroy fighters on the ramp as they were taxiing to takeoff. The excuse I used for shutting down the airfield when the lead MiG went splat was that they had been bombed earlier and there was only useable one access route to the runway remaining. I am considering a similar tasking in an upcoming mission, but was wondering if there was any way to force the AI to use a different taxiway if the plane or flight in front of them gets splatted. Any ideas gents? Edited August 2, 2015 by feefifofum THE GEORGIAN WAR - OFFICIAL F-15C DLC
Backy 51 Posted August 2, 2015 Posted August 2, 2015 (edited) Good luck with that! That is an interesting conundrum! I wonder if AI taxi logic can even be redirected? Edited August 2, 2015 by Backy 51 I don't need no stinkin' GPS! (except for PGMs :D) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
DarkFire Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 Unfortunately I'm pretty sure it can't be done. Other than being subject to change due to wind direction over the runway I think the route taken on the ground from an aircraft start position to the runway threshold is hard-coded. That being said, with the entirety of air traffic control being looked at & upgraded for DCS 2 I can only imagine that this situation might well change, which would be very handy for exactly the reason described. feefifofum Posted August 3, 2015 Author Posted August 3, 2015 Yeah my only thought was trying to rig something up with dynamic weather, but the thought of trying to set up a pressure system to change the direction of the wind at an exact time terrifies me haha THE GEORGIAN WAR - OFFICIAL F-15C DLC
Grimes Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 Yep, AI taxi behavior is hardcoded. Wish it wasn't, but it is. feefifofum, it doesn't work like that. Dynamic weather is dynamic in the sense that the weather changes from point to point depending on the location and settings of the pressure systems. The position of those systems don't move. Standard weather is uniform throughout the map, while dynamic weather won't be. You can't change either mid-mission at all. The right man in the wrong place makes all the difference in the world. feefifofum Posted August 3, 2015 Author Posted August 3, 2015 Thanks for the reply, Grimes, even if you are the bearer of bad news. :) Your and speed's excellent work already saved my bacon in the design of my current mission. I am still very much a novice with regards to scripting, but mist.grouptopoint allowed me to script a retreat by ground units when I hit a brick wall in the ME. Looking forward to exploring more!
