Ermintrude Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 I'm thinking about a new PC, but I'm not sure what's the best approach to graphics cards. I want to export the MFCDs in A-10c to a second monitor. I've been able to do this successfully with my current PC but I'd like to make the right decision for a new PC. So my question is, am I better to spend my graphics card budget on one card and plug two monitors into that card, or should I split the budget between two less-capable cards? My graphics card budget is around USD$650. If I'm splitting the cost, should I have one better card for the primary display and a lesser card for the MFCDs? Any help greatfully appreciated! Joni Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 I'd go for a GTX 980. For me, SLI or Crossfire has some limitations and compatibility issues. If you are a plug and play guy, go for a high end gpu. FSFIan Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 Go for a single graphics card. Two reasons: (a) I am not aware of any modern graphics card that does not support at least two monitors (most support three, some even up to six) (b) According to my understanding of how DCS and DirectX work, if you combine a more powerful GPU with a less powerful one and export the MFCDs to a monitor connected to your less powerful GPU, the more powerful GPU will do all the work and then you have an extra step of copying the MFCD image from the video memory of one card to the video memory of the other card, so you will not gain performance with two cards compared to one DCS-BIOS | How to export CMSP, RWR, etc. through MonitorSetup.lua
Ermintrude Posted August 3, 2015 Author Posted August 3, 2015 Thanks, both, that's a big help. Ian, also many thanks for your 'How to export.....' guide - I couldn't have done what I wanted without it! I think I'm headed down the R9 Fury X approach for my card, but still not 100% decided.
