Chann3l Posted September 9, 2015 Posted September 9, 2015 I haven't played with the mission editor but from what I understand the AWACS channel needs to be setup by whoever designs the missions. Is there a way to find this? I asked several people and the only response I got back was to use / F7 etc. I tried to explain that I need the correct channel in the mig21 to get a response but they didn't answer. Is this just a common problem with multiplayer where people don't configure it or am I just not looking In the right place (briefing didn't mention it on the 159th server).
159th_Falcon Posted September 9, 2015 Posted September 9, 2015 Personally i've never been able to get the AWACS to respond in the MIG-21. Then again, i haven't read into the radio's of it so i may very well be doing something wrong. As far as i know though, if AWACS for the 21 is configured in our missions it should be on either channel 1 or 2 of your radio. (should be in the briefing) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] The keeper of all mathematical knowledge and the oracle of flight modeling.:)
Mrgud Posted September 9, 2015 Posted September 9, 2015 (edited) Have you changed AWACS frequency? When I create mission, I adjust AWACS frequency from 251 to 124 MHz and it works fine. Radio Channel selector is on 0. For details, see the manual, pages 61 and 62! Edited September 9, 2015 by Mrgud
mwd2 Posted September 9, 2015 Posted September 9, 2015 From the ME side: Channel 0 & 1 are free on the MiG-21bis, by default they are on 124 MHz and on 150 MHz AM (AFAIK) the rest (18 channels) are for the AFBs - but could be changed if you need them. but you need also setup the freq. for the AWACS or in my case, for the ground radar: Playing: DCS World Intel i7-13700KF, 64GB DDR5 @5600MHz, RTX 4080 ZOTAC Trinity, WIN 11 64Bit Prof. Squadron "Serious Uglies" / Discord-Server: https://discord.gg/2WccwBh Ghost0815

Hopefully I will have some luck with a low altitude ambush but if I can get info from AWACS it'll make it a lot easier. I read that the default frequency for AWACS was what the next poster had mentioned and was channel 0 on the mig but that didn't work yesterday.
Chann3l Posted September 9, 2015 Author Posted September 9, 2015 Maybe I'll try 0 again. I mean it's multiplayer so I can't check the configuration for the missions 159th runs but hopefully they have 0 setup. I'll play around with it and see if I can get a response.

The whole concept of the MiG-21 interceptor is based on CGI (Ground Controlled Intercept) which is nothing else than an AWACS except it's a ground radar. So yeah, AWACS/EWR is really important for the Fishbed, since it's radar is not really a search radar but rather a target acquisition and fire control radar. The problem in DCS multiplayer is, that on many servers/missions the frequencies are not set up correctly or there is no AWACS/EWR in the first place, which makes the MiG-21 almost useless :( I think the 159th server is one of those IIRC.
