Luftwoller Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 Hi All, This is getting mental. I can land and take off without a hitch but trying to dogfight this sucker just ends with me seizing the engine everytime. Ive gone through the 109 manual trying to find some sort of engine management ideas but all it seems to give me is, 'Don't touch, leave everything in auto'? Watching the temperature gauges like a hawk and the thing stays roughly around the right temp. Maybe a little on the high side. The MW50 switch is to the right, so im presuming this is correct, Id love to be able to join some combat online but to be 'The one' with the seized engine doesn't appeal. Help!!!!! ...Guy Helicopters!! Never trust anything that screws itself into the air!
Flying-Kane Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 Hi Luftwoller, please provide us a video of your dogfight, so we can see, what's going on. I don't have any problems with high temps in the Bf109. In my opinion, we all using high powersettings to often. That was not the case in WW2. If you watch the video of Erich Brunotte, he espsecially mentions this, he flew with max. 1,2 ata in combat. Cruising speed with 0,9 - 1,0 ata, if i remember correctly. SilentGun Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 Are you moving the throttle too fast? That stops the engine in a heartbeat. I would also recommend not using the MW50 unless you absolutely have to. Keep your RPM's between 24-26 during the fight. Bugs with Superbugs, Tiffy's with Tornado's, Fulcrums with Flankers and Mirage with Rafales... :)The Future of DCS is a bright one:)
Luftwoller Posted September 14, 2015 Author Posted September 14, 2015 Ive persevered all afternoon with this and ive come to the same conclusion. I spend too long with the throttle buried in the firewall. This added to yanking too hard on the stick is causing major overheating. I tried going easy with her in Single player combat and the plane didn't die. Ive watched the Erich Brunotte video and learnt a lot too. Thanks for the replys btw, ...Guy Helicopters!! arglmauf Posted September 15, 2015 Posted September 15, 2015 Be careful with the throttle at the higher end too. It doesn't increase smoothly past 1,42 ata and jumps up to 1,6 rather harshly. If you pass that point regularly you always ramp up the RPM quickly risking to overrev it.
