While 4670K is much older, it's UNLOCKED, plus it's got 16gb and a good mobo (if oldish tech). On the other hand the 6500 is brand new, mobo (of the brand that I loathe to death) will be (hopefully) able to support future CPUs. But, according to cpu comparison websites, 6500 not much more powerful than the 4670K (CPUboss comparison 4670vs4690 not much difference and 4690 vs 6500 not much difference either) and can't be OC-ed (which I always end up doing). Talk about dilemma...

Tnx!

CPU to CPU Skylake isnt much better than Haswell for most applications.

what you need to consider is how much future proof you want your PC to be.

if you upgrade once every 4-5 years like myself , i prefer to get the most advanced chipset available and then hold on to it for a long time.

if you upgrade every 2-3 years then go for the cheaper option.

(remember that series 100 chipset brings stuff like M.2 slots , more PCIE lanes on the CPU, DDR4 for mainstream and more )

I would definitely get the 4670K with 16 GB RAM and overclock it.

More performance, more RAM and a good MB.

Should last you longer, especially when the newer CPU does not overclock.

I'm running a much older i7 2600K, and it is perfectly fine, because it overclocks well.

System specs:

Gigabyte Aorus Master, i7 9700K@std, GTX 1080TI OC, 32 GB 3000 MHz RAM, NVMe M.2 SSD, Oculus Quest VR (2x1600x1440)

Warthog HOTAS w/150mm extension, Slaw pedals, Gametrix Jetseat, TrackIR for monitor use
