The official press embargo for Intel Conroe's ends today the 4th of June.

AMD's AM2 official press embargo ends June 6th.

So we should be seeing even more reviews and evaluations than

have slipped out already.

I'm curious to know if any one wants to share what they consider excellent sources for PC tech reviews.

I usually browse through:

http://www.xbitlabs.com/

You've pretty much covered all of my usual bases. It sure would be nice for something to come out that offers enough of a performance gain over my 2.5 year-old system to justify the cash outlay. Sorry guys, but my "old" system still pretty much keeps up with all the new, super whiz-bang stuff, and I just can't justify spending more money to "upgrade" just yet.

They are the same sites I use for my info aswell. I was looking foward to AM2 but some of the early results are not very promising. The Conore looks lot stronger. Being an AMD man I may jump ship to Intel if they can provide the right performance at the right price. But in saying that its still early days and it looks like AMD have a bit of work to do.

Right now Intel is on 65nm cores and AMD on 90nm cores for top of the line CPUs. AMDs 65nm cores are expected to be out in December. Will be interesting to see how much the performance gap narrows when both are on 65nm. We should start hearing rumors on AMDs 65nm slipping out maybe sometime in October.

Never been a big fan of AMDs. They're definitely on the cutting edge, but they have not proven to be NEARLY as tolerant of build f-ups as the Intel chips. I've made "just a few" build f-ups, and haven't smoked an Intel yet.

My system was hand built, and is very stable. If I was to buy again I would do it AMD once more. Im no-ones fanboy. The only chip Intell is selling is their P extreme D805 wich is cheap and beats all competition but only if overclocked, wich I wont do as a basis of new hardware purchase. OC capability is fine but I will never make my buy with OC from the build.

I heard it requires hefty Wattage as weall and would like not to pounce on my energy bills more than is necessary. :)

Oh, and I will never buy hardware that has never been reviewed either. Embargoing Previews or reviews is to me an act of bad faith torwads the custumers, because it entraps them into making a buy when they could have planned it better with better info.

These types of "press embargos" only apply to BEFORE new "stuff" is released for sale to the public. In this case the Conroe press embargo is now lifted and the CPUs in question aren't due to be on sale till 23 July.

The procedure is designed to PROTECT consumers - not harm them.

Early reviewers usually get "engineering samples" designed for testing - not the production models that we could end up buying. So when the press embargos end it generally means that actual production models are coming out of the factories and so the testers & reviewers can get their hands on the actual parts that we will be able to order. It's those tests and reviews that should be most important to consumers.
