Fiachra Posted October 10, 2015 Posted October 10, 2015 (edited) Hello, I have been using the photo attached below as my desktop picture for a while now and have often wondered, and tried to figure out, if it is a MiG-15 or 17. Also can anyone confirm if it is actually a genuine photograph or if it is a product of photoshop. I am not sure where I got it from, possibly this site or else it must of popped up on Facebook. Oldguy Posted October 10, 2015 Posted October 10, 2015 Wild guess: MiG-15 because of the proportionally shorter fuselage and less overhang of vertical stabilizer at jet nozzle, as best I can make out. As for photo realism, I cannot imagine how any airplane could accomplish that, but it is a fun Photoshop if nothing else.
Eihort Posted October 10, 2015 Posted October 10, 2015 The water plume is substantially more resolved than the surrounding bridge. Photoshop.
Lucas_From_Hell Posted October 11, 2015 Posted October 11, 2015 There is a great story to this image. First and foremost, it is not an actual photo. This was the work of a photographer to merely demonstrate a MiG - MiG-17, to answer your question - flying under a bridge in Novosibirsk. Now the fun part: the incident actually happened. To the amazement of the crowd of onlookers and the ire of military staff there too, MiG-17 pilot Valentin Privalov flew under a bridge over the river Ob in Novosibirsk, during the summer of 1965. Initially - as expected - he was removed from flying duties, but he was reinstated shortly after due to the public's outstanding reception of the stunt.
Svend_Dellepude Posted October 11, 2015 Posted October 11, 2015 MiG-17 has three fences on the wing while the -15 just had two. There were other differences though, but visually, looking at the wings might be the easiest way to differentiate the two.
