joebloggs Posted October 17, 2015 Posted October 17, 2015 I'm just wondering if there is anyway to increase the size of your cockpit? I would like to do this so that the A10C cockpit appears larger in the Oculus Rift. I'm just wondering if there is anything in the config files that would change the size of the cockpit? Thanks!
PiedDroit Posted October 17, 2015 Posted October 17, 2015 Try this: I think the value for the IPD is the eye_shift parameter in Stereo.lua (one for each eye). You should try different (smaller) values to see if it has an impact on scaling. EDIT: in \DCS World OpenBeta\Config\MonitorSetup This won't increase the size itself but might help if you feel like you're flying a toy

My ipd is 65.1mm but I have no idea what numbers to put in to DCS config. What number do you recon I should put in for that ipd? Thanks!

The default setting in DCS is -0.06/0.06 for each eye, I don't know the unit. However I read on the internet that some people were happier with values around 0.03 to 0.035, which makes me think the value unit is meters. You should try -0.03255/0.03255 (which is 65.1mm/2 for each eye) and see if you notice a difference in scaling. Edited October 17, 2015 by PiedDroit 1
Crunchy Posted October 17, 2015 Posted October 17, 2015 That worked a treat for me it seemed to make things clearer. Thanks!
vicx Posted October 17, 2015 Posted October 17, 2015 (edited) I think you guys are imagining things. Pretty sure the "stereo separation" settings in Stereo.lua are for things like Nvidia 3D Vision with the shutter glasses. These settings have nothing to with VR rendering. Edited October 17, 2015 by vicx to avoid confusion I changed IPD to stereo separation (eye_shift)

Let's see if people with a DK2 at hand will see a difference before calling it BS ;) EDIT: I tested various IPD setting (called scaling also) myself with DK2 (friend) but not in DCS (it was FSX or maybe P3D) and saw the difference, you really feel the cockpit is smaller with high in-game IPD. Here are my source for figuring out DCS's settings, but obviously I can't test because I don't have a DK2 with me: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1987827&postcount=1390: And big thanks for viewDx and eye_shift setting - saving a lot of time for me 0.12/0.025 is very relaxing for eyes.https://www.reddit.com/r/oculus/comments/2fmpmk/dcs_dk2_and_amd_card_a_workaround/: edit the "eyeshift" lines to your needs, this is basicly the IPD in stereo rendering, it is experimental, whatevere fits your eyes the best (on default it is 0.06 which is waaaay too high, the best for me is 0.035)https://www.reddit.com/r/oculus/comments/2c21gj/dcs_is_freaking_amazing_in_dk2_go_try_it_now/: drop the left and right eye shift settings to something around 0.030 and TrackIR to OneonOne. vicx Posted October 17, 2015 Posted October 17, 2015 (edited) I know how IPD in VR works. I also know how traditional stereoscopic rendering works. I do have a DK2 and I am running DCS 1.5 BETA with an Nvidia GTX780. (DCS 1.5 BETA uses the Oculus 0.7 Runtime so I am using Oculus 0.7 runtime.) From the testing I am doing right now ... the settings in Config/MonitorSetup/Stereo.lua have no effect in DCS 1.5 BETA VR mode. I am throwing some wild values into these settings and nothing looks different. Edited October 17, 2015 by vicx

I am throwing some wild values into these settings and nothing looks different. I tried it (in non-beta), without Oculus rift, and the eye_shift has the expected effect (the two images are shifted as per eye_shift value). Too bad I can't test it with a DK2 myself. I tried 0.02 and 0.16. However in the open beta it didn't work right away, the file reverted itself to default values, I'll try with a file in Saved Games instead. If you have a Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\Config\MonitorSetup\Stereo.lua it should override the one in your game folder. EDIT: the file in Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\Config\MonitorSetup\ seems to work as the configuration is not overwritten (I created a second configuration named Stereo2 to make sure I'm using the other file), however I'm unable to see the effect as the two images are squeezed on my display, I can't tell if it works or not, like in the non-beta. Edit2: posted a couple of screenshots here: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2522715&postcount=4466 I hope this will get easier to configure in the future :music_whistling: Edited October 17, 2015 by PiedDroit
