Hi guys.

Last night a new update for 1.5 came in and so I updated (didn't reboot my PC) then went straight online and played a couple of hours of MP with no probs.

This morning, DCS wont run at all. I double click the icon and it goes to start up (I see a brief flash of the updater checking for updates) then the process hangs or something. I get no splash screens, nothing. Just DCS.exe and dcs_protect.exe running in Task Manager.

After about 5 minutes this pops up (see attached pic).

I've tried several times and it's the same. Once it hangs, you can't even end the tasks in task manager properly either. Trying to end dcs_protect.exe results in task manager hanging and locking up.

I'm going to run a repair and see how that goes. Just thought I'd post it up.

Repairing DCS has not worked. I still get the same message.

DCS tries to start, I see a small window pop up saying initializing then it swiftly checks for updates and then that's the last I see of DCS. It hangs in the background somewhere.

LOGS ATTACHED.

EDITED: I've just had this pop up randomly not 5 minutes after my last failed attempt to launch DCS 1.5 (See attached image).

I'm wondering if it's an issue with the DCS protection system.

In the mean time, I'm going to run some tests on my rig and make sure it's not an issue my end - although I've not installed or done anything since playing fine last night after the update first came in

UPDATE: Well, I've ran all the scanning and cleaning tools I have at my disposal and my PC is pretty clean. No viruses, trojans or malware. Just plenty of tracking cookies.

It has made no difference to DCS however which still comes up with the Fatal Error message as depicted in the image attached to the post above.

UPDATE #2: Just had another User Interface Application crash messages pop up (like the one in the screenshot attached to this post) 10 mins after my last failed DCS launch attempt. This time I copied the crash data.

First one looks like a communication/network error. Were you playing multiplayer at the time? The last one you posted doesn't look like DCS is crashing at all, looks like some other application you've got. The log files you attached shows a crash on the 15th October but nothing recent. I wonder if it's some other aspect of your OS installation that's causing this rather than DCS. Anything in the windows/system event logs? You got anything like a firewall app installed? If so, try disabling and/or temporarily uninstalling it and give that a shot.

I've narrowed it down to a problem with an exe called dcs_protect.exe.

For some reason it is this exe that's causing the hang.

I'm re-installing DCS 1.5 onto another HDD incase the update last night managed to find some bad sectors or something. But it's definitely something to do with dcs_protect.exe.

If I navigate to that file with file browser and even right click on it it sends my PC beserk so I'm now thinking it's an issue with my second drive.

Just re-downloading DCS 1.5 Beta for re-install. Stay tuned!
