Maybe I've missed a post or some fix somewhere but finally got time to spend this weekend on DCS and have spent hours trying to figure this out.

When flying I see the tree shadows at a distance looking like black blotches on the ground, when flying toward them they slowly fill in.

I've tried about every setting combination in the options I think with no change. Also increased far distance in Ultra.lua to 30000.0.

Using latest Nvidia drivers for my 970's. and am sitting around 2700 mb memory usage on the cards.

Attachments show what I'm seeing and last used settings are there.

I have to be missing something simple here?

wow that looks extremely horrible. I have the same issure. Trees look bad, like made from cardboard, the shadows make them even worse. Plus, terrain texture detail gets not loaded from far away, which makes it look horrible. My DCS1.2 install looks way better. Granted, 1.5 has much better performance, but on my system, it looks much worse than before the update. Im considering doing a new install, because like your pic above, it cant possibly that ugly, there must be a bug or something

I noticed that in the 1.5 iteration of the new EDGE engine, within the old Caucasus map, the draw distance for details seems rather low for every 3D item. This could be because the Caucasus map doesn't have any distant LOD models that could be rendered by EDGE... Dunno; would be nice to hear some developer feedback on this.

But then again, we're also using beta software that is - after all - only half-baked at this time. :)

I have tried every possible setting, with or without terrain mods and the only way the trees look natural without shadows popping in and out is to select flat shadows only and flat terrain shadows on. I lose cockpit shadows but I'd rather have the terrain look good so I don't mind giving that up. I am using a GTX 650ti OC 2GB GPU so maybe it's an issue with older GPUs that those with the new ones are not having. I remain cautiously optimistic that this issue can be resolved.:joystick:
