hannibal Posted November 1, 2015 Posted November 1, 2015 hello belsimtek. not too long ago, i commented to wish that the UH-1H had dedicated axis commands for the doorgunner.. prior to DCS 1.5, operation of traversing the doorgun was done with a mouse.. or with the 'looking around' via the camera view when the 'use TrackIR' option was checked off. in VR, this presented a problem for me because i did not like the fact that you control the aim of the doorgun with your head (camera view) instead of separating the camera view from the where the doorgun is actually aiming. all though i did not test the actual assignment and use of doorgun axises, i did see them as options while glancing at the control settings!!!!!! (BIG THANK YOU) i hope to check it out.. and if they work as intended (i.e. aim doorgun with an analog joystick while looking out at a direction unrelated to where i am firing), i hope to build to TWO controllers to resemble a mockup of a M134D (minigun) MY HOPE (AND ONE OF MY DREAMS) is that Oculus rift is released, multicrew is implemented on the UH-1H, in which i can play in a multiplayer session in which the Huey will be occupied by 3 players where ONE pilot will fly TWO doorgunners (using a pintle based controllers) to perform missions in VR !!!!!!! anyway, hope to check out the implementation of the axis commands in the meantime soon when i find sometime find me on steam! username: Hannibal_A101A http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197969447179
Flagrum Posted November 1, 2015 Posted November 1, 2015 Hrm ... nice! But I just tried it: 1. the default eye point of the door gunner stations is wrong, pointing at the same direction as the pilot (i.e. heading 360) and not sideways (i.e. 90 deg / 270 deg). 2. left door gunner works GREAT (once you disabled TIR aiming in the options) 3 right door gunner: erratic movement of the gun - it is like you balance a pencil on a broomstick. There seems to be a sweet spot where the gun follows your mouse, but more often than not it just snaps to the side and is stuck for a good few inches of mouse movement. Maybe some sort of +- or 180 deg. off error? Feels a bit as if I were rather draging the barrel around from the outside instead of using the handles ...?

vicx Posted November 1, 2015 Posted November 1, 2015 (edited) Good news hannibal. I just tried the Gunner position in VR with a DK2. In [uH-1H Gunner], [Axis Commands] Unbind MOUSE_X and MOUSE_Y FROM Camera Horizontal View and Camera Vertical View to stop the Gun View from being totally messed up. I don't know why this would be the case but I'll add a video to show the problem when I have some time. At this point, looking around works and is not messed up but you can't aim the gun. Map the Gun Left/Right to MOUSE_X and Gun Up/Down to MOUSE_Y to make the gun aimable. At this point you can 'look with the HMD' and 'aim with the mouse' which is GREAT! In [uH-1H Gunner], Weapon I had to unmap Machinegun Fire [/b] from the mouse button to stop the DCS window from losing focus when you click the mouse. When the mouse is not locked to view then you have a cursor and it can travel beyond the edges of the screen. With the current way the mouse works in DCS; using the mouse for aiming (independent of the view) in windowed modes might cause troubles. Just something to keep in mind. Am about to try aiming the gun in VR mode using an Joystick/Analog controller instead of the mouse. Will update this post. *update* Does not work with joysticks for now. Button_42 and Button_41 do not like axis input from my x55 throttle. {action = device_commands.Button_42, cockpit_device_id = devices.WEAPON_SYS, name = _('Gun Left/Right')}, {action = device_commands.Button_41, cockpit_device_id = devices.WEAPON_SYS, name = _('Gun Up/Down')}, This is my first time looking at input lua ... so there is more reading to be done.
