pampa14 Posted December 27, 2015 Posted December 27, 2015 An interesting report with some curious photographs showing a Spitfire of the RAF carrying beer kegs under the wings. I've never seen this. Can anyone tell what the purpose of it ? To see these curious and unbelievable photos, visit the link below: http://aviacaoemfloripa.blogspot.com.br/2011/01/um-armamento-curioso.html Best Regards!
Eddie Posted December 27, 2015 Posted December 27, 2015 For a short period during WWII new aircraft delivered from the factory to front line units based in France were sent with kegs of beer under the wings as a morale boost for the troops. It didn't last long because as soon as the Government got wind they pointed out it was illegal export of good and put a stop to it. So in short, the beer kegs are exactly what they look like, kegs of beer.
NeF Posted December 28, 2015 Posted December 28, 2015 Getting beer back to the guys and having to fly just high enough to get it at the perfect temperature is something that might be considered in a hypothetical future spitfire campaign. Would be... refreshing.
