Is there any difference between the 120B and the 120C in DCS? IRL it's Charlie is obviously more advanced and has longer range...etc. but is that reflected in DCS? Thanks.

^That too...why is this in the military thread if its a DCS-specific topic?

Interesting... I didn't put it here, I put it in the DCS World page... I guess someone moved it. So basically there's no reason to use the 120B? I mean most of the time the C turns good enough at Rmin shots anyway so...

I'll see if I can dig up a tacview or two about Rmin 120C and B shots...

The B turns a lot better in, for example, two circle fights at SL, F-15 vs F-15...I use 2 Bs when taking an 8 AMRAAM load instead of 9Ms.

If we had that certain AIM-9 model that everyone wants I wouldn't take 8 AMRAAMs, though.

No, not when it comes to tactics.

I've never noticed the B turning better, but have never measured their performance. Even if true though, the C's range and ECCM trumps the extra agility.

At some point the lift on those missiles will be represented more properly, and while the B probably does generate a bit more force, it shouldn't really make a difference to you as a target - ie. It will always out perform you.

Rmin differences will also be small due to the fins IMHO-more likely the difference will be made by the rocket fire rmin.

But are these difference all in theory or have they been implemented in DCS and been observed?

I'd have to look at the missile definitions again. There are a few factors that affect rmin - the rocket alone could do it, and there could be a difference in lift. There could be a difference in the initial guidance delay as well.

My post was based on DCS and nothing else. If you want the best missile, use the 120C. It is longer ranged and harder to avoid (part of that being a by product of better range).

I am fairly convinced at this point the B is better at low altitude intercepts. While an edge case, in the past when guys would do airfield raids with Su25Ts, I always had a better hit rates against their HARMs with 120Bs and Aim7s than 120Cs. Just yesterday I engaged a low bandit firing a B first and then C as fast as I could possibly switch between them. When he broke defensive one missile hit the ground ©, the other got the kill (B). The C hit ground 2-4 seconds before the B made its intercept.

Interesting... but obviously not as scientific and not as controlled. Also interesting that you say aim-7 as well because from what i've seen, if the target aircraft is anywhere near the ground and i'm pointing anywhere near the ground, as soon as that sparrow leaves the rail, it goes absolutely stupid. Fully locked on in STT and it just goes stupid. I don't know how to cure the disease.
