erjdriver Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 After firing a vikers - what are the requirements for it to be guided to the target. How far can you veer away - pitch up/down etc.
Isegrim Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 (edited) 8.8km fully and surely guided at 0 Wind/awesome weather/0 speed. Altitude near sealevel and yourself nearlyat the same altitude level like the target from ground. For sure in LA Override (Launch Permission Overide) >left alt+w The Laser has to be ON and the target has to be found and maybe locked directly in the center of the Shkval. Forward speed(into the direction of the target) and more Altitude will increase the Range of the Missile. Edited January 10, 2016 by Isegrim "Blyat Naaaaa" - Izlom

How far can you veer away - pitch up/down etc. Pitch and yaw changes while hovering are generally okay so long as you do not exceed the gimbal limits of the Shkval. Performing a turn, climb or dive that significantly moves you away from your flight path at the time of launch will often cause the missile to fly out of the guidance beam and go dumb. In general, slow changes to altitude or heading are okay so long as they aren't too large, while fast changes (such as evasive maneuvers) will cause loss of guidance. If you launch while flying forward its best to keep flying towards the target until impact. Thankfully the high speed of the missile means that you usually don't need to wait too long.
BitMaster Posted January 13, 2016 Posted January 13, 2016 You also do not have to lock the target if it wont lock at a great distance, just make sure the rectangle stays over the target as long as the Vikhr is on it's way. YOu have to manually readjust the hit box a few times usually, depending on how stable you hover. This should not be done while in motion, unless you have a fast fingers and an eagle eye,) You might want to install Devrim's mod that shows laser temp, you can easily burn the laser if you aim from far away and are not yet aware of the pending burnout...which will happen...sooner or later. Any notion of where that might be found? I looked in 'User files' under his forum name, 'Devrim', but no joy. I appreciate the help, thanks!

Viking_355th Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 The thing to remember about about the Vikhr is that it is a beam-riding laser-guided missile. Unlike many laser-guided munitions, the ordnance must not lose sight of the launching aircraft, or it will lose guidance. The Vikhr's laser sensors aren't mounted on the front, looking for a target we're painting with laser light. The sensors are mounted on the back, and they watch the launching aircraft's laser beam, riding it all the way in. Vikhrs follow desired-track, not desired-heading, where the DT is defined entirely by the guidance laser. So, if the target is stationary, but the Shark is moving, the missile will maneuver dramatically to remain on-beam. This will bleed off a lot of energy, and may even cause the missile to lose guidance. The answer to your question is a frustrating "it depends." At max range, you can't move an inch or experience a whisper of wind. At moderate range, remain stationary until the missile finishes burning, then move; because the Vikhr is so much closer to the target before you begin maneuvering, the laser will move less, which provokes less maneuvering from the Vikhr, so you're at less risk of missing. At close range, either use guns/rockets, or get your ass back out to moderate range. Sharks tend to lose knife-fights. 1
