Rlaxoxo Posted January 16, 2016 Posted January 16, 2016 I noticed something pretty odd and Thought I should put it on record [ame]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nhj5VPVPpeM[/ame] [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Youtube Reddit
Rlaxoxo Posted February 2, 2016 Author Posted February 2, 2016 Bumping this thread up just to remind this is still one of the issues [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Youtube Reddit
Zeus67 Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 Duly noted, but what was your speed and FBW status? I couldn't get those from your video. "Programming today is a race between software engineers striving to build bigger and better idiot-proof programs, and the Universe trying to produce bigger and better idiots. So far, the Universe is winning." "The three most dangerous things in the world are a programmer with a soldering iron, a hardware type with a program patch and a user with an idea."
3rd Wing - Raiden Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 You were way out of the flight envelope of Gain Secours FBW Mode. Gain secours max speed at sea level is Mach 0.95, decreasing with altitude. This could be why you experienced such behavior.
Rlaxoxo Posted February 2, 2016 Author Posted February 2, 2016 Duly noted, but what was your speed and FBW status? I couldn't get those from your video. It happens at pretty much any speed above 400 knots And I used flipped the FBW spin switch for extra roll rate I did not touch FBW gain switch [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Youtube Reddit
codefox Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 Noticed the same behaviour with the FBW spin switch [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Zeus67 Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 It happens at pretty much any speed above 400 knots And I used flipped the FBW spin switch for extra roll rate I did not touch FBW gain switch I think CptSmiley can explain better but the FBW spin switch relaxes the rules a little so you can get out of a flat spin. So, it can be an artifact of the relaxed rules. Still we have noted your request and will check.
Rlaxoxo Posted February 2, 2016 Author Posted February 2, 2016 Zeus is correct on that, you are basically well outside of the comfortable gains used by the spin switch mode which are more designed to give higher authority at low speed and out of control situations. You are using it at a very high speed, in control situation it is not designed for thus you get the odd control behavior in that mode... This happens at lower speeds as well overall feels really wobbly when I use the spin switch Even on lower speeds it goes left and right which caused me to miss couple of shots while dogfighting at low speeds I could make another video showcasing this but I'm currently swamped with exams that I can't even turn the game ON Maybe I'll show it tomorrow if it's needed [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Youtube Reddit
Azrayen Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 Gotcha will look into it, but basically, as far as I understand it, that switch is meant for trying to regain control when you've gotten yourself into a situation the normal control laws aren't able to cope with Yup, that's it. Interestingly, it is claimed by various sources that except for dedicated test flights, this switch has never been used (never needed) operationnaly; a tribute to the quality of the flight controls ;)
Rlaxoxo Posted February 3, 2016 Author Posted February 3, 2016 Yup, that's it. Interestingly, it is claimed by various sources that except for dedicated test flights, this switch has never been used (never needed) operationnaly; a tribute to the quality of the flight controls ;) So you aren't suppose to use this switch like at all? Odd I thought it's a nice switch to use when dogfighting gives you faster roll rate and stuff for quicker reactions But not sure if the wobble should be there all the time I would understand if it's at high speeds, wait actually wouldn't it make more sense if it were more stable at higher speeds? Then again if you relax the rudder authority it would become slightly unstable hmmm ... Still having that wobble at 350 - 600 + knots really feels weird I don't think that it should be in THAT extreme measures [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Youtube Reddit
Zeus67 Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 So you aren't suppose to use this switch like at all? Odd I thought it's a nice switch to use when dogfighting gives you faster roll rate and stuff for quicker reactions But not sure if the wobble should be there all the time This is an emergency switch, for emergency situations when departing controlled flight. It makes the aircraft more unstable thus the faster roll rates, but at the same times you are pushing the aircraft, and your safety, to its limits. I would understand if it's at high speeds, wait actually wouldn't it make more sense if it were more stable at higher speeds? Then again if you relax the rudder authority it would become slightly unstable Try more unstable. hmmm ... Still having that wobble at 350 - 600 + knots really feels weird I don't think that it should be in THAT extreme measures As CptSmiley said, we will check on it but don't expect too much. So indeed it is pretty much straight forward, you use it if FBW which is designed to prevent stall and asymmetry (and spin IS asymmetric stall) fail to do that. This is not NORM/ DOGFIGHT switch. If you want to test something, let the switch in NORM and try to put the aircraft in spin. You shouldn't be able to do that easily, at least with clean aircraft. Mirage fanatic !
