About how far away should the target be away from me when i launch and what is that missile's PK?

Also is there any significant differences in the AIM-120B or AIM-120C ?

At low/medium altitude and speed, about 8nmi, if he beams, it has a decent chance of hitting, IIRC. That setup really depends on speed and some other stuff.

High alt/mach (like 35k and m1.4)? About 15nmi.

AIM-120B turns a bit better while burning (better at minimum range, too), AIM-120C has slightly better range.

Sweeps is about correct.. I'd say 15nm against a newer pilot. how ever if someone knows what they are doing and they know you're high and fast they are not going to just sit there letting the aim120 keep its speed until pitbull.. So in retrospect high alt launches against a vet should be no more then 11nm maybe 12 for a better chance of scoring a hit. If you're high and you see a target start to crank at 15nm you should not fire as he is prepared for your shot. [all though if you have access aim120s on board feel free to launch one at 15nm to force a good defensive maneuver and shoot the second at 11nm or closer.]

If your desired effect on the target is making the pilot defecate his pants laughing then you can definitely achieve it with a launch like that.

The Charlie is also more resistant to countermeasures.

Yep! Totally forgot to mention that.

Isn't it completely immune to chaff or something?

It's not totally immune to chaff but, having been on the receiving end, the 120-C has VERY good countermeasure rejection.
