  1. I've figured out how to have my wingman go forward and perform a recce and send target info through the datalink and storing them but how do i target them to engage? my SHKVAL TV screen remains dark. The targets are blue diamonds on the ABRIS map but i can't figure out how to slave my SHKVAL to them to blow them up.
  2. I went into the DED, set up TACAN and ILS. The DED reported ILS ON, I triple checked the ILS Freq and it was correct. I flew to the runway via TACAN and switched to the other mode on the HSI, it never picked up the ILS, that red bar remained on, and i had dashed vertical and horizontal lines on the hud, I switched runways and changed the TACAN and ILS Info triple checking again to make sure they were correct and that DED still said ILS ON, again nothing, I flew directly over the runway several times and the ILS never picked up. I tried a 3rd runway and again the same.
  3. Silly question i just cant find the right button to lock up or bug? a target on my radar. Im trying enter for cursor/enable but that doesnt seem to be it. The controls are different than the FA-18. I need some help plz. Thanks Also is it the same to lock up targets while in ACM?
  4. I've included the track file for the HSI bug. I noticed I can trigger it by changing the SCL from 40 to 20, the crs jumps many degrees each time I change the HUD scale hsi-crs-bug.trk
  5. I've noticed everytime I'm RTB to the carrier this odd thing happens. I set up the TACAN, and bring up the HSI, select TACAN. The carrier this time had a BRC of 305 degrees so I set the CRS to 296, everything was set up fine, then I notice that once I'm within about 15 miles of the carrier my TACAN CRS line is over 30 degrees off target at 326 deg, this happens everytime. Whatever i set the CRS for when I'm still 25-40 miles away from the carrier, when I get close it jumps 30 degrees plus. Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?
  6. "There's an old fighter pilot saying-"Don't fight the way your enemy wants you to fight"" Well what I want to know is HOW does the enemy want me to fight? Something really simple like MiG 29 at 25,000ft + Do this, 15-25,000ft do that, under 15,000 do this and never do that, vs MiG 25, MiG 21, M-2000C, etc etc. I'm getting the idea that I should not try and enter a climbing fight with the MiG 21 but what is my best altitude to engage him? Whats his best altitude to engage me? and same with other planes.

During the training mission it said i had to set the VT fuze height to the same setting the bomb was set to and in the training it was 1500ft but im flying the close air support mission and it doesn't say what the bombs fuze is set to, automatically the VT fuze is set to 300, how do i determine what the bomb is set to?
  8. How do I employ flares and chaff? There isnt a training mission for it. I remove the joystick and click the DISPENSER to ON, not bypass, and then the ECM to RCV, then to XMT when i want to jam will that automatically deploy flare and chaff when im fired on? or do I need to do something more?
  9. How do I jettison fuel tanks or un used weapons in the F/A-18? the F-15 had a command to do so but unless im missing it in the control panel im not seeing it. thanks
  10. This might sound silly but there isn't much info on how to properly engage different fighters at close range say within 5 miles. I was doing the DACT MiG 21 vs F/A-18 1 on 1 and I was getting beat in a turning fight by a MiG-21 it was embarassing What are the best altitudes to engage at, and how should I engage? Turn and burn? or Climb and dive? I was trying to turn into the MiG to get on his six and He'd stay inside the turn until I was nearing stall speed.
  11. Does the F/A-18 have a mode similiar to the F-15C where you have that dotted circle on the HUD and anyone that flies into it within like 10 miles you can just hit TDC depress and lock them up? Or are you limited to just mad dog launches? I ask because I was dogfighting and its pretty much impossible to get a radar lock when the target is within 10 miles maneuvering. I get that AC-VISUAL on my HUD but is there a way to lock up a target that flies into it? or do i just launch mad dog mode and hope?

  13. I'm doing the weapon qual mission for the HAARM. I select Haarm on the Left DDI, then TOO mode, I use the I button to select which radar i want to target, then do the sensor left thing and get the diamond in the upper part of the DDI, now heres where the problem is all the tutorials ive seen say to use Cage UnCage the C button and the radar selected icon will change and you can launch. I press C to the cows come home and nothing happens and I can't fire. What am I doing wrong?
  14. the retractable gunsight for the right handside pilot, how do you turn the reticle on? M lowers the gunsight for the lefthand side pilot and the reticle is already lit up, but lowering the right side 1 it is not.
  15. alright at the risk of sounding like a complete n00b, which when it comes helos i guess i am. the mi-8 its default settings have the joy slider assigned to the collective, and the throttle i believe set to default 100%, are you saying the default huey controls have my joy slider to throttle but not assigned to collective? if i reverse that can i leave the throttle set at 100% as with the mi-8 or do i have to control that as well?

  17. also i've flown the mi-8 and i can get that off the ground. the huey just sits there.
  18. i've done this from the free flight and the training missions, i've even used the cheat lwin home to auto start, and the rctrl enter shows the throttle is full, i set the collective to max power, i even switched off the governor and got rpm limit warnings and i can't freaking get off the ground.

I know this is an obvious question and let me cut off any "do the training missions" for some reason the Huey training mission freezes half way through for me. anyway when i do instant mission free flight, with the huey already started up on the runway. i can not get it to fly. i apply full power to the collective, nothing, i even manually did it with page up to be sure, i turned that governor to emergency and nothing, it just won't climb but the rotors are spinning. what obvious simple thing am i missing?
  20. Well i forgot in 2 years. Besides Art-J's answer was very comprehensive thank you. auto pilot for roll? i need to re do the training. I got the Mi-8 when it first came out and the training missions were pretty crappy and the cockpit was entirely in Russian as well. i'm having a hard time hovering and landing. i keep chopping my tail off. mind if ask that question here or should i start another thread? how to land without chopping my damned tail off.
  21. i'm well aware of the procedure, however, some times the maverick will not lock on to the target before i get too close to fire. sometimes it locks up right away sometimes it does not. i was wondering if a higher altitude or AoA would be helpful
  22. btw ill lock the target up with the tgp on left mfcd, then switch to the right mfcd as soi and hit v to transfer the cross hairs to the target set as "point" on the tgp screen, and like i said sometimes soon as i cross 10 miles it ll turn into a solid cross hair and i can fire, other times ill fly right over the target pressing the lock button the entire time with no joy.
  23. ive been playing a-10c for awhile and this issue has occasionally annoyed me but never enough to break down and ask about it until now. i'll be flying along and using the tgp and litening pod lock up some ground target like e.g. a t-72, then switch to the maverick missile lockup screen on the other mfcd and sometimes it ll lock up right away once i get within the 10 mile range limit, other times i'll practically fly right over the target and not get a lock on. what factors determine how fast you get a lock? ground clutter? altitude? weather conditions? i mean the last time i tried this i was targetting a ural truck right in the middle of an open field with absolutely nothing around it, and from 10 miles out repeatedly pressing the lock button i could not get it to lock the damn thing up so i could fire. so any tips on how to obtain faster locks would be appreciated.
  24. i have a question some times ill be flying along and ill hear "generator 2 failure, generator two failure" then with out doing anything different or seeing any obvious warning lights "generator 1 failure, generator 1 failure" but the odd thing is it doesn't seem to affect the way the mi-8 flies or cause me any noticeable problems. what am i doing that is triggering this, and what happens when the generators fail, and can i fix them in flight?
  25. sorry i didn't update the thread. switching the game back to simulation settings solved the issue. the joystick slider now controls the throttle, however, that being said i can assure you that under the game settings there are 2 distinct categories 1 being throttle, and the other being thrust. thanks for the assistance but i have to say i am getting slightly annoyed at my controls and settings being "adjusted" whenever i update or add packages. e.g. i bought dcs f-15c and had my own custom controls set but when i bought flaming cliffs 3 with a bundle it reset all my controls. which is what happened here i updated and bought some new packages and viola my settings had been overridden and making me look like a total n00b.
