bunraku Posted January 24, 2016 Posted January 24, 2016 Hi I just got killed by an OSA at 21500 feet firing an SA-8. According to docs I have downloaded from the User Files section of DCS it should either have had a max altitude of either 16500ft or 19500ft. Obviously the documents are wrong so where can I find the correct figures? Thanks

bunraku Posted January 25, 2016 Author Posted January 25, 2016 Too be honest no. I was chaffing and had my jammer on but as I thought I was at least 2000ft above maximum altitude I didn't do any escape maneuvers.
NeilWillis Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 That maximum altitude is probably accurate if the target is defensive, but if you aren't expending energy, then nor is the SAM, and therefore it will have a more effective maximum range. 10% more than the advertised ceiling isn't a huge discrepancy under those circumstances. You should add a margin to be totally safe.
Kuky Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 Terrain elevation adds to that also (your indicated altitude will be over sea level) PC specs: Windows 11 Home | Asus TUF Gaming B850-Plus WiFi | AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D + LC 360 AIO | MSI RTX 5090 LC 360 AIO | 55" Samsung Odyssey Gen 2 | 64GB PC5-48000 DDR5 | 1TB M2 SSD for OS | 2TB M2 SSD for DCS | NZXT C1000 Gold ATX 3.1 1000W | TM Cougar Throttle, Floor Mounted MongoosT-50 Grip on TM Cougar board, MFG Crosswind, Track IR
GGTharos Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 Also depends on target speed. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
