Antidamage Posted January 29, 2016 Posted January 29, 2016 So I just purchased the A10-C warthog and Flaming Cliffs from steam. Installed, fired it up, and now DCS is telling me that I need to unlock it by making an additional purchase of a "serial number" directly from DCS sales. If that wasn't enough, it throws this dialogue up 20-odd times before you can escape out of it. This is a huge scam, I just paid $100 and now there's an additional unlock fee. That's completely illegal. DO NOT TRUST STEAM OR DCS. If you were suckered into paying the unlock fee, I hope you used a credit card so you can do a charge-back because you've been ripped off. It's sad and disappointing that things like this still exist in this day and age.

Antidamage Posted January 29, 2016 Author Posted January 29, 2016 Nah it's OK, worked it out. So everywhere I look everyone tells me "DON'T RUN DCS THROUGH STEAM" so I was launching it directly. But if you bought the aircraft via steam the only way to get the key is to launch it using steam. Next concern: 9 activations remaining. I was hoping when I hand over money for software that I purchased it outright, not as a kind of time-limited thing.
SkateZilla Posted January 29, 2016 Posted January 29, 2016 (edited) If you buy modules from steam with the intent to run in DCS standalone you have to retrieve the key from steam and bind to your dcs account. PiedDroit Posted January 30, 2016 Posted January 30, 2016 Next concern: 9 activations remaining. I was hoping when I hand over money for software that I purchased it outright, not as a kind of time-limited thing. This is the copy protection system. Activations and deactivations (use one to save an activation) are consumed when there is a drastic change of hardware detected. Also, they replenish at the rythm of one per month IIRC. So, unless you're changing your computer every two weeks or do heavy hardware testing, you shouldn't run out of activations. Even if something doesn't go smoothly for whatever reason, you can still ask help to ED's support. Take some time to read the forums, you'll find out that ED or 3rd party are very helpful and responsive.
