Cowboy10uk Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 Hi guys, I'm after some advice, I'm lucky enough to have a Komodo Simulations UH1 collective, and currently I have it bolted to a wire drawer alongside my chair. To be honest this solution is pretty pants, the drawer bends and the collective catches on the end of the drawer, meaning small control inputs are pretty much impossible as the collective base can move a bit with the drawer. Has anyone got any Ideas what the best way to mount this will be, so it won't move while I'm operating it, either by attaching it to my office chair or having it sat on the floor? Any ideas would be great fully received. It's a stunning collective, which my current mounting solution just isn't really suitable and fails to do it the justice it deserves. mr_mojo97 Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 (edited) You should easily be able to make a box (like a kitchen drawer but wider) out of 12mm mdf stand it in end then screw your collective on it. If you don't want to screw the box to the floor you could always put a breeze block in it. That'll be heavy enough so the collective won't move. A bit crude but it'll be fine. Otherwise depends on the fitting of the collective and the style of the office chair would depend on how it could be attached. Or another idea, I bougt a couple of black £5 square ikea tables - about 18"" square. And screwed all my a-10c panels to them (one ever side). The perfect height for my office chair and they're easy to move too Edited February 10, 2016 by mr_mojo97 MSI M5 z270 | Intel i5 7600k (OC) 4.8GHz | MSI GTX1080ti Gaming X 11Gb | 500gb Samsung 970 Evo NVME M.2 (DCS World) | 500gb Samsung 850 Evo SSD (OS and Apps) | 32Gb 2400MHz DDR4 - Crucial Ballistix | Be Quiet Silent Loop 240mm | NZXT H440 case | Thrustmaster Warthog - 47608 with Virpil Mongoose joystick base | MFG Crosswinds - 1241 | Westland Lynx collective with Bodnar X board | Pilot's seat from ZH832 Merlin | JetSeat | Oculus Rift S | Windows 10 | VA |
j0nx Posted February 11, 2016 Posted February 11, 2016 (edited) I mounted a 8x15" piece of plywood to the bottom of my swivel chair with 6 screws to mount my OE-XAM collective. Works great for me until I pickup the Volairsim cockpit that was willed to me. And congrats on that collective. I'm jealous! My Bell 206 replica rocks too though but Komodo is in a league of its own. hansangb Posted February 11, 2016 Posted February 11, 2016 I'm going to be in a same boat as soon as Rich ships my collective and cyclic. Not sure how I'm going to put it all together - along with TM Warthog. I'm leaning towards modifying the foldable Stand like this one hsb HW Spec in Spoiler --- i7-10700K Direct-To-Die/OC'ed to 5.1GHz, MSI Z490 MB, 32GB DDR4 3200MHz, EVGA 2080 Ti FTW3, NVMe+SSD, Win 10 x64 Pro, MFG, Warthog, TM MFDs, Komodo Huey set, Rverbe G1
frogger Posted February 14, 2016 Posted February 14, 2016 i had a design for this years ago when i used to switch between flying helicopters and fixed wing. but it was dependant on the chair used. the chair my design ran off was like this one it has 2 bolts in the vertical section of the arm rest and 2 in the lower horizontal and it holds the seat and backrest together 1 either side. removing the arm rest gives u 4 mounting points. so my idea was like this and cut away box. not shown in the model i had more bits of wood above the collective either side to form a shelf that a flat bit of wood could slide into with the hotas throttle mounted to it. i used a box on the other side for the throttle but never got around to mounting it.
Cowboy10uk Posted February 17, 2016 Author Posted February 17, 2016 Thanks for all the replys guys, Frogger, I especially love your idea, that seat is pretty much identical to the one I'm using. May take a few weeks, but I think removing the left hand armrest and changing it to a mount like that would be the best idea. Many thanks again. BigBANGtheory Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 If you have an old office chair (like me) and don't mind some experimenting you can modify it quite a bit. For example the leather material is usually stretched over a foam cushion on a ply wood base, so if you un-tac the leather you can hacksaw into the foam/base and then reattach the leather. This will give you a cutout for a pedestal mounted joystick or some other solution. You might be thinking "but if I remove a central cut-out on the base won't the chair be unconformable for normal use?" Honestly its not a problem even with your legs together there is enough support either side of the cut out. What surprises me is that non of these gaming chairs offer this cut out option which would be the n0.1 reason for me buying a gaming chair vs. any other office chair at half the price.
