Swarthy Posted February 13, 2016 Posted February 13, 2016 HI, I was wondering whether a cd/dvd version of the Mirage 2000 was in the works upon official release? If I were to download the beta version now, will it be possible to get a physcial copy of the game afterwards? Cheers S
Flagrum Posted February 13, 2016 Posted February 13, 2016 +1 but for me on 3.5" floppy, please! So it fits in nicely with my 3.5" edition of NTTR! 1

RoflSeal Posted February 13, 2016 Posted February 13, 2016 Yeah, physical releases on PCs have gone the way of the Dodo.
Gaveroid Posted February 13, 2016 Posted February 13, 2016 I don't believe you will be able to get a physical release, that's just something that smaller companies (by smaller I mean in comparison to ones like Activision / Ubisoft / EA) don't really do anymore. I don't know why all you guys are acting funny about his request for one... physical copies are nice to have and although they may not be as convenient as downloads, it feels like you actually own something. It's nice to have something to put on your shelf... I just bought Rainbow Six Siege the other day at Best Buy, and I brought it home and put it on my shelf next to some of my other Clancy games such as Splinter Cell Conviction... after all these years they are still using the same nearly identical spine design so they all look nice together on your shelf. You don't get to appreciate that sort of thing with a digital-only download, as convenient as they may be.
Flagrum Posted February 13, 2016 Posted February 13, 2016 I could understand the desire for a physical manual or other similar stuff which has a practial use. But simply the media - to waste my already precious space and to collect dust and making cleaning chores more time consuming? For media that is already outdated the very moment it arrives at home ... or even earlier, before production ...? No, thank you! :o)
Rlaxoxo Posted February 13, 2016 Posted February 13, 2016 I don't see how it would be useful to have Hard data these days when things get patched ever so often with better improvements and so on I guess you can copy it your self to your Ex harddrive or CD if you wish but I don't really see a point [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Youtube Reddit
Gaveroid Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 The reason I like physical media is because with a download I don't feel like I've bought something. If I take money in a bank account and exchange it digitally for intangible goods, it doesn't really feel like buying something. I don't see any less money in my wallet and I don't see physically that I've gained anything, where if I go and buy something physically at a store, my wallet is lighter, and I've got a physical, tangible product in my hands that I didn't have before and it feels more like buying something. Plus I like boxes. :)
Maulkin Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 You used to be able to download the individual DCS modules until recently (which you could have then burnt to a disk of some kind). Now the modules will only install via the internal module manager. This makes a lot of sense for DCS as they have version control and wont have to deal with chasing their own tails when people run into problems with mismatched versions and raise bogus bug reports. --Maulkin Windows 10 64-bit - AMD Ryzen 9 5900X @ 3.7 GHz - 32 GB DDR4 3600MHz RAM - EVGA FTW3 RTX 3080 - Asus Crosshair VIII Hero motherboard - Samsung EVO Pro 1 TB SSD - TrackIR 4 Pro - Thrustmaster Warthog - Saitek rudder pedals - Lilliput UM-80/C with TM Cougars

I personally havent used a single DVD CD or whatsoever in years, and it feels great! ;)
Beagle One Posted February 18, 2016 Posted February 18, 2016 (edited) I recently bought The Witcher III and before, ArmA III in DVD simply because I refuse to download a game taking two days to download at the 150kb/s maximum I get. Not everyone lives in a city nd even in so calles 1st world contries fast internet is either not available or simply too expensive. I let go of a lot of games I was first interessted in because I could not get them on DVD. I generally don't like the idea of pay to play games by download only. I have made some bad expereinces about that with Iron Front 1944. The publisher is gone and the Install does not work anymore since you cant register the game because ther eis no server to respond. Basically I would have to buy the whole game and addon bundle again on steam by now. I have no problems with free to play games as a downlad only though. Edited February 18, 2016 by Beagle One
Dingo_Bob Posted February 18, 2016 Posted February 18, 2016 my wallet is lighter, you still use real cash it's 2016 what's that like :D [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Modules are like Pokemon you gotta catch 'em all :joystick::lol::pilotfly: AMD Ryzen7 3700x, G-Skills 32Gb RAM @ 3200Mhz, MSI GTX1080Ti, TM Warthog (20cm extension by Sahaj), MFG Crosswind Pedals, Oculus Rift, Track Ir5

I personally havent used a single DVD CD or whatsoever in years, and it feels great! ;) I am comfortable with downloadable programs, I have nearly 200 Steam games and more on Origin and UPlay. I just find that I don't really feel like I've bought something if I don't have something physical in-hand. I don't have any problem with downloads, just I prefer physical boxes if they're the same price.
Swarthy Posted February 19, 2016 Author Posted February 19, 2016 I was simply asking as all the former dcs games I have are hard copies is all.
xjiks Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 No, there's no hard copies anymore since the main DCS:World and modules are updated frequently, this would lead to downloading the game after some time because the hard copy would become outdated. Or would you like to buy a hard copy just to have an activation key inside like some games do with Steam ? Also, the base DCS:World is free so there's no way it can remain free and have a boxed version. L'important n'est pas de tuer, mais de survivre. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] if you read this you are too curious
