granola1861 Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 (edited) **SPOILER ALERT** Not sure if this was supposed to happen or not but I capitalized on the event nonetheless. So here I am flying home down Sally Corridor after a successful mission and enjoying the beautiful sunrise over Nevada when I notice a Mig 29 on my RWR getting closer. I'm about 5 miles from making the turn toward Apex when my wingman spots a bandit. I decide to go ahead and make ready for more work (Arm weapons, guns, countermeasures up, lights off, and tune to 150 AM for AWACS support). I turn back towards the west just in time to see a missile contrail nail my #4. Now I'm in dogfight mode turning on this unlucky SOB and get tone on his tailpipes. First shot nails him and the followup was just to be sure. I did a quick assessment of my surroundings. My downed Hawg pilot was in the silk, I marked his POS for the PJ's and continued to RTB. All in all a good day in my opinion (3 ground vehicles destroyed and one Mig dead!). Not sure if this was a rogue bird or not. If it was set in the mission then kudos for keeping us on alert. I really didn't expect Red Forces to be attacking over populated areas like that though. I was well past the VUL time so I didn't know if mission had them RTB or not (I guess not). Really digging both campaigns! Very immersive and fun. -Climber Edited February 17, 2016 by granola1861 grammar and whatnot
Steve Davies Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 Nice work maintaining SA, Climber! No, that is not a scripted part of the mission, so it must have been a rogue AI pilot! Steve Davies https://www.10percenttrue.com
granola1861 Posted February 17, 2016 Author Posted February 17, 2016 No, that is not a scripted part of the mission, so it must have been a rogue AI pilot! Those funny AI rogues! At first I thought he was trying to defect!
Steve Davies Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 It reminds me of a story that Paco Geisler, a fairly well-known character in Air Force circles in the 1980s and 1990s, told me. He was a Red Eagle pilot, flying MiGs from Tonopah and exposing the tactical air forces to 'the threat'. After one CONSTANT PEG mission, he flew back to Nellis in a T-38 to debrief the visiting F-15 squadron. One of the pilots said to him, "You sure speak good English for a Russian", to which Paco responded, "What are you talking about, dumb ass!? I'm American!". Steve Davies https://www.10percenttrue.com
Blackeye Posted March 2, 2016 Posted March 2, 2016 No, that is not a scripted part of the mission, so it must have been a rogue AI pilot! Happened to me as well. You really need to give those gomers the "container talk" again :music_whistling: Additionally (on behalf of Hawg2-4) I would like to respectfully request the installation of some air defenses along Sally Corridor - oh and whoever is in control of that MQ-9 Reaper needs some go-pills badly ;)
ajsarge Posted March 7, 2016 Posted March 7, 2016 I just finished Mission 6. On my way out across the FEBA, I picked up a Mig 25 on RWR and called AWACS for a bogey dope. He said bandit 25mi away, hot. A minute later, I called for another bogey dope and the bandit was 11 miles away, so I went into fight mode and the flight was ordered to kill bandits. The next second, my wingmen called out a bandit, a missile launch, and my RWR/MWS pinged a missile. Sadly, I'm not too good with my countermeasures and took an R-40 to the tail. I ejected, and my wingmen scored the kill. Thankfully, the mission was still counted as a win.
granola1861 Posted March 8, 2016 Author Posted March 8, 2016 You must have killed his boyfriend in that tank back at the target area. Revenge is bittersweet...
