bunraku Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 Hi Are there any good resources/tips for being a wingman? I am doing it for the first time in a training mission and want to know how to respond in altitude changes. The leader called a lower height and i descended, but he didn't or at least at the same time as me, so consequently i was staring up at his belly. Are there specific wingman commands to act upon? Thanks

Ski1106 Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 As far as AI goes, without hours of practice, you may never be as accurate as they want you to be. Hiwever, the key to being a good wingman is Situational Awareness (SA). You need to remember, as a wingman, your job is to watch out for your leads 6 o'clock. You need to watch not only his 6, but keep your head on a swivel at all times to check for air threats. As wingman, you rarely go heads down since SA is the priority. Sabre-TLA Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 (edited) As a proper wingman you should stay close to your flight lead and match his every move. Normally the flight lead should call out heading, speed and altitude changes and give some time for the flight to acknowledge. As a wingman you should only execute them when lead does if you want to maintain formation. The flight lead may order you to maneuver immediately like a "Break Left" call which should be acted upon immediately as it may be needed to avoid a collision or incoming missile/weapon. Agree that the 476th has some very good documentation based on real world ops. Combatsim has some good tips here. Edited February 19, 2016 by Sabre-TLA MapleFlagMissions - Read Our Blog for Updates
