Hello DCS Community,

I am currently looking into building a Mini ITX Gaming PC Using the Gigabyte Z170N Gaming 5.

My concern is the USB ports on the back there is not to many. I was wondering if i use the 2 top usb ports for my mouse and keyboard. I was thinking of using a USB 2.0 powered hub to the other USB 3.0 port on the back of my motherboard to use with My TrackIR, CH Products Joystick, Rudder Pedals and Throttle. I want to make sure that this will work with my controllers?

The USB Hub i have is Powered and has 9 USB ports. This USB hub will only be used to plug in my flight controls and stuff for games like DCS ARMA and all of that.

Thanks in Advance. Really can't wait till me and my son fly with the community :joystick:

Thank you. I heard using a usb 3.0 port can cause problems with some controls so i want to make sure hooking up a usb 2.0 powered up to a usb 3.0 port would be fine and connect the controls to the powered usb 2.0

There's generally no problem with USB 3.0. I have all my controllers (warthog hotas, crosswind pedals, custom made controller, tir, keyboard, and mouse,...) and they're all fine.

What you've probably heard is people having problems updatung the warthog firmaare over usb 3.0 ports. I think that's the only potential for problems.

If you suddenly have problems ( which I would be surprised if you did) I'm sure there are stillat least some good old black 2.0 ports on your board. Hubs made just for that - connect more devices.

The only issue that can cause trouble is faulty hub

Because i don't have enough room. Also having ATX is not what i need will not use all those features

Also A lot of Z170 Boards don't have USB 2.0 ports anymore

You ever hear the phrase making a mountain out of a mole hill? This is you right now. USB versions are backwards compatible. Your controllers will work in any of them. I have 3 and 3.1 ports on the back of my computer. The 3.0 hub may or may not be plugged into the 3.1, I simply don't care; 10Gbps is beyond overkill for controllers and I don't have any 3.1 peripherals let alone a 3.1 hub.

Buy yourself a nice hub that will be useful for other things; mines behind my monitor in easy reach for the occasional thumb drive or charging. Even if you have no use for that functionality it's not going to break your controllers.

EDIT: and to put it to rest, I just pulled my desktop out, my 3.0 hub is plugged into the 3.1 Type-A port, and nothing is on fire.
