Gliptal Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 I noticed that the lack of branching in the campaign (which I totally understand) leads to a slight feeling of disconnection between some subsequent missions, namely those that have multiple outcomes. To remedy this, one idea could be to branch out, but only modify the briefings and/or FRAGOs between the branches. For example, in one of the Hammerfall missions you can eitherdefend Echo, or fail in doing so.In the next mission though, for obvious reasons there are no references to what happened, since the briefing has to apply to all possible outcomes. Would it be possible to create for such occasions a branch, where the mission itself is identical, and the only difference is in the briefing? The branch would then immediately merge on the next mission. I have no idea if this is doable in the engine or not, but it may add a further layer of immersion.
baltic_dragon Posted April 5, 2016 Posted April 5, 2016 It is possible and I have considered it. What held me back during development of the Enemy Within was the size of the final campaign - to change the briefing you still need to include a whole mission file with all the VOs etc. That is why I decided to go for the debriefings after landing. However, in the new campaign I am building for A-10C I am planning to go this way - not only by having different briefings depending on the outcome of previous missions, but also slight alterations to the missions themselves (say, you don't find the BUK battery that was moving from one place to another, you will have it active in the beginning of next one and will have to wait for SEAD or you don't take out ammo transport for the enemy and you will face additional forces / MANPADs in the area, that kind of thing). So in short it will come with the "Crimson Dawn" campaign for the A-10C, but I don't plan on including it in the TEW. For more information, please visit my website. Gliptal Posted April 5, 2016 Author Posted April 5, 2016 Nice, didn't realize you had to copy over every asset, I thought the campaign wrapping allowed for shared resources. Looking forward to the new campaign!
