wolfstriked Posted May 16, 2016 Posted May 16, 2016 I don't have VR yet but know that comms will be a pain to use.You need to hit a key to open the comms menu at which point you look at the menu and choose the key that corresponds with your choice. So for me to contact ATC I hit ~ then F5 then F3. I posted before of this simplification and I have no idea if the devs even noticed it.Basically the comms menu would have two keys where one is select and the other is to move the highlighted option. Two buttons that you could have on a HOTAS will work much better than having to look out of your headset at the F keys put headset back on to see what the next options are etc etc. "Its easy, place the pipper on target and bombs away." :pilotfly: i7-8700k/GTX 1080ti/VKB-GladiatorPRO/VKB-T-rudder Pedals/Saitek X55 throttle
wolfstriked Posted May 16, 2016 Author Posted May 16, 2016 Or even better something just hit me.DCS already has the function where buttons can have short and long press option. This could be tuned to be one single key press.Press comms key and then cycle thru the choices and long press same key to activate the highlighted option. Some third party software that may help (plus, it's only 10 bucks) https://www.voiceattack.com/
Sryan Posted May 16, 2016 Posted May 16, 2016 Some other games solved this by using something called a Commo Rose. You held down a key, wich brought up a menu, that you can then use the mouse in to communicate what you needed. Perhaps This would be something useful in DCS? VR users could maybe use the central point of their vision as the focal point and letting go of the key would communicate that message. Even as a non-VR user I would like it instead of the / F# menus. Check my F-15C guide
wolfstriked Posted May 16, 2016 Author Posted May 16, 2016 Voice software might become a necessity with VR.As for the comma rose,IMO it forces the player to reach for the mouse which would not be needed with a two button system or even one button. Any VR users care to give some feedback as to how comms stuff is handled?
