firesoldier845 Posted September 1, 2006 Posted September 1, 2006 I just got a new computer after only having a laptop for the last 6 months. I want to make high quality LOCK-ON movies. I don't care about file size all that much, I just want the best quality image I can get. I am rendering movies at 1280X720 widescreen so I can edit them on my laptop. If I don't use compression then just 10-20 seconds of video is like 2 gigs-which is TOO much. I noticed if the videos are like 2 gigs they won't even play on the computer. So I guess I have to use some type of video compression but I want to use the best so WHICH one??? Again, I'm not concerned with video file size that much but of course I can't or don't want to edit 2 gig files that are only 15 seconds of video. Also, do other video compression software compatible with the in game render tool? Such as quicktime or something else? Even if I have to purchase something I will gladly do that to get high image quality video at 1280X720 widescreen. Thanks for any help.
Brit_Radar_Dude Posted September 1, 2006 Posted September 1, 2006 Can't help with your Movie making question, I'm afraid as I've never done a Movie myself. But I'll just say that "Come and Get It" is still in my top ten favorite Lockon movies. Most movies use a nice sunny day, so good to see the use of some foul weather - in fact typically British weather. Good editing, good soundtrack - can't say I had really heard much by those Biscuit chaps before (I'm quite old). Loved the way the Su-34 canopy then crew ejection fitted in with the music - accident or deliberate editing? Look forward to seeing your next Movie offering..... firesoldier845 Posted September 1, 2006 Author Posted September 1, 2006 wow, thanks for the compliment. "Come and Get It" was like the first movie I EVER did EVER for Lock On. I love making movies though. I'm starting to get into high definition movie making so I wanted to do some Lock-On stuff in High Def 720p. I use an Apple laptop for most of my real movie making, but naturally I have a nice PC for gaming. I haven't been playing much LOMAC lately cause I just had my laptop until a few days ago. I'm really happy someone liked my "Come and Get it" video. It was a lot of fun making and I had a lot of fun actually flying the combat scenes in the movie. The crew ejection with the music was deliberate editing. I really like to choregraph the music with the video as you can see in that movie. I've got some great ideas for future videos and want to start working on them, but again, I am really trying for image quality this time around so I want to find a good codec that I can use. Maybe I'll try searching the forums a bit more for information. thanks again for the compliment. cheers

FC installs it--or asks if you want it to. At least it did during my install. I've since downloaded the most recent codec. XviD yields great definition in a small file size. By way of example, a video I rendered in the WMV format was 75MB. The same video as an XviD AVI file was both sharper and smaller (45MB). The downside is that not all computers come with the codec installed. So you might have people who won't be able to view the vid.
