jojo Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 so HSI will be showing me bearing to the bullseye and then after I reach bullseye, I should change my bearing to the one, that's shown on VTB and I'll see the target at the indicated range ? No, you don't need to reach the BE. You have to build a "mental picture". Everyone has his trick, what I suggest: - Think by 90° Ok, I'm 105°/ 30Nm from BE, so I'm in south-east. Bogey is 045°/ 25Nm from BE, so he is north-east. So to see him on radar I have to point roughly to the north. Then you adjust your TDC position to the exact position the AWACS gave you. If the bogey was BE 315°/ 20Nm, being south-east, I would have to point north-west. If the bogey was BE 225°/ 20Nm, being south-east, I would have to point west. If the bogey was BE 145°/ 20Nm, being 105/30, It would be behind me, I would have to point south. The radar can scan 120° (+/-60°), so you don't need to calculate precisely your interception vector at first. Just put the contact into radar scan cone. Mirage fanatic ! jojo Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 From your diagram will there be a method of providing Bullseye to bandit in the Mirage? Or was that just a line your drew to emphasise your point? Red and yellow lines are for explanation purpose and would not display on the screen. But by placing the TDC over a contact, you can read his BE position. Mirage fanatic ! jojo Posted June 11, 2016 Posted June 11, 2016 I forgot to tell something that might not be so obvious at first reading of these posts. We keep talking about Bull's Eye coordinates. But in mission editor Bull's Eye is a random point you drag anywhere. With M-2000, if you want to be able to use AWACS calls, you must put a Mirage waypoint on the Bull's Eye, and select to correct WP on radar screen to read the same coordinates as the AWACS. You don't really need to overfly it, but you need to have it in the flight plan ! Mirage fanatic ! VTJS17_Fire Posted June 11, 2016 Posted June 11, 2016 (edited) Ok, I'm 105°/ 30Nm from BE, so I'm in south-east. Bogey is 045°/ 25Nm from BE, so he is north-east. So to see him on radar I have to point roughly to the north. Some corrections. 105° is east, south-east would be 120° up to about 150°, round about. If I want to get ihm, you have to turn a little more to the west, not straight to the north, with a tight azimuth. With 60° azimuth of course not. If the bogey was BE 145°/ 20Nm, being 105/30, It would be behind me, I would have to point south. Depends on your and his heading. He also could be on your nose, or on your 3/9er line. His heading (called tracking) isn't shown at the VTB (at least not at the B/E, but at the screen) and should be called by the AWACS/ GCI controller to intercept him. I forgot to tell something that might not be so obvious at first reading of these posts. We keep talking about Bull's Eye coordinates. Just Bullseye. Thanks for the other explanations regarding the Mirage.
