Hi all,

I am working a bit with the mission editor atm. I am not very skilled yet, but I am impressed from the opportunities it provides.

I'd love to bring in voice overs, but I have no idea how to record them. I have also looked for some text to speech programs, but all want to have money for puting out wav or mp3 files. It is not that I am not willing to spend money for it, but not for just a test.

I'd be glad, if someone could give me some advice which software is suitable and what equipment I need that for.

That you can use for TTS (Text-To-Speech) so you get a file to download from it.

Then you need audio editor that allows you to change pitch, speed and such things like the above mentioned Audacity.

I highly recommend to check youtube for first the basic videos about importing, exporting etc files in Audacity, and then get to the basic edits and get your idea wild how to imitate the radios, paniced speech etc.

If you want to make quick and dirty radio immersion: http://opengameart.org/forumtopic/audacity-radio-voice-effect

Of course you can use your own voice, as it is easier to record the expression you want without problems. Just a cheap 10 dollar mic is just fine!

Then you just play around with all distortion and adjustment tools in Audacity to change your voice (if you want!) or just make it sound like radio!

I made the original voice, engine and explosion recordings with my cell phone. Then I got help from folks for the mixing, and making the voices sound like they were coming over a radio.

Here's a tip if you do it that ^^^ way, if you have a bunch of dialog for a person to record - have them keep going over and over with the dialog even if it gets screwed up, just keep recording it all in one session and keep track of the start and stop times of the parts you want to use,,, don't make a whole bunch of individual recording sessions from one person, IMO they are too hard to track.
