Emu Posted July 30, 2016 Posted July 30, 2016 During an undergraduate placement at BAe a long time ago (1997) I was given a fact file that states the maximum speed of the FRS2 at Mach 1.3 at altitude and 635kts low level. I re-discovered this file while going through some old junk. I wasn't aware that any Harrier could go supersonic, is this file correct?
Ventus_Clu Posted July 30, 2016 Posted July 30, 2016 It could be similar to the Tornado GR4, it says maximum speed of mach 1.3 however what it really means is if the aircraft is in a clean configuration and you enter a dive that's the speed you could achieve. Not necessarily the maximum speed in straight and level flight. Just a thought.
Chris1012 Posted July 30, 2016 Posted July 30, 2016 That would be its over its VNE at its max ceiling. Pretty optimistic. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Why yes, I did just crash...
Retu81 Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 I guess it's pretty much the same deal as in BAe Hawk. Mach 1.2 is stated to be the maximum speed, but you pretty much only reach it if you perform a near vertical dive at full throttle from 33000 feet.
Emu Posted August 3, 2016 Author Posted August 3, 2016 Oddly enough, in the same file the Hawk 60, 100, 200 and T45 are only quoted at 540-550kts.
