Johnny Dioxin Posted July 30, 2016 Posted July 30, 2016 I have probably missed this somewhere, so please make allowances (I'm getting old, and noticing it...). With the recent updates there is now an option to either use the mouse to control the cursor, or have it controlled by head movement. Is there a control assignment option for activating switches etc? I can't find one, and if one doesn't exist, I don't see the point of the head cursor. Not only would you still have to put your hand on the mouse to click it (or does perhaps the TDC mini-stick on the Warthog throttle perhaps work as a mouse click?), but if tooltips are turned on, you get them continually popping up as you look around the cockpit panels. Also - is there an edit I can make, to make the tooltips disappear quicker? Those huge, grey blocks they are in are very distracting when flying, and they stay up far too long. They sometimes cover other gauges, too. Thanks for any assistance :) Rig: Asus TUF GAMING B650-PLUS; Ryzen 7800X3D ; 64GB DDR5 5600; RTX 4080; VPC T50 CM2 HOTAS; Pimax Crystal Light I'm learning to fly - but I ain't got wings With my head in VR - it's the next best thing!

Purg Posted July 31, 2016 Posted July 31, 2016 I go a little deeper with mine, just got it working moments ago before coming here. Using my Warthog and VoiceAttack, pressing in the Mic button causes VA to centre the mouse on screen. Within DCS, I've also set up the Mic button as a modifier. So with the modifier I've mapped my DMS as left click, right click, forward scroll and backward scroll. I've also mapped my pinky switch as Zoom (with and without modifier). So as long as I hold down the Mic button, I can move my head and click and turn switches in cockpit using DMS. Much better than fumbling about for the mouse for a decent amount of buttons and switches.
NeilWillis Posted July 31, 2016 Posted July 31, 2016 Have to say I'd like the tool tips toned down drastically too Brixmis. Right now, it's only a choice of on or off, and they are far too obtrusive as they exist right now. A totally transparent background would help, but being able to limit the time they're visible would be great too. I used to leave them on while I learned the layout of new modules, but now, they're never switched on - far too big and obvious. There is also a possibility of having a cursor hover feature, where the switch could throw after say 1 or 2 seconds? There would need to be 2 hotspots I guess, one for left, and one for right clicks. It'd mean you could stay hands on unless you need to operate a rotary perhaps, or rotaries might be changed so they have 2 hot spots, one for clockwise, one for anti clockwise? I presume it'd need all the modules updating to make it happen, so I guess it's not likely to go ahead, but it'd certainly make the cockpits more versatile.

I have it but havent used it in ages, I've just tried to find this in settings but have failed miserably :( **EDIT** Cancel cancel, I worked it out! Huhzza! Ratcatcher Posted July 31, 2016 Posted July 31, 2016 (edited) I'd be appreciative of youse guys' VA tutorial if doable. :) I'm afriad I can't really help with the VA profile side of things ( as Im not using this as yet ) I have just got the "center mouse" function to allow me to use the mouse better. Here is what I did to get this part set up: Assign a joystick to VA: 1: Download the latetst VA software. 2: Click on the "Spanner" icon. 3: Under the "General" tab click on the box "Joystick Options". 4: If no joysticks are listed - click the + icon next to the picture of a joystick, this will give you an drop down list of available devices. 5: Select the device you want to use ( i.e Throttle - HOTAS Warthog ), click "OK". 6: Click OK at the bottom of the page and "OK" again to close out the options page. Then create or import a profile: 1: With VA started click on the + button at the top ( next to the icon of the pen and pad ) 2: Click on either "Create new profile" or "import profile" if you have one. ( I'm using a A-10C profile I donwloaded some time ago. 3: If its a new profile - Name it "DCS Profile" or some such description. 4: Click on "New Command" 5: Clear the "When I say" check box and click in "When I press button" 6: Then simply click the joystick button you want to assign to center your view ( in my case my hog throttles mic button). 7: It should change from "Not Set" to Joystick 1 : Button 2 8: If it doesnt accept it hit the circular arrow button to the right of joystick. 9: Click OK 10: Below the "This command is executed : When I press a button" section is the "When this command executes, do the following sequence:" 11: Click on the "Mouse" box. 12: Click on "move" 13: Under the "Mouse movement relates to:" Highlight " Move to specific location" and find in the drop down "Cursor Screen Centre" 14: Click "OK" And that should be it! Everytime you clcik the mic button ( or whatever button you select ) the cursor will recenter itself to the center of your screen. You then just need to select the joystick buttons to assign the mouse commands ( Left click, right click, etc ) as mentioned in Purg's post. ( P.S If the cursor disappears just hit one of your "mouse" buttons to get it back on screen, then hit the recenter button ) Hope that makes sense and helps! Ratcatcher Posted July 31, 2016 Posted July 31, 2016 @Purg, Having set up my controls as per how you describe, everything is working great except the forward scroll and backward scroll buttons. They work but only incrementally ( i.e I have to keep clicking to increase the value rather than just hold the button down ) Is there a way of getting the value to increase without having to keep clciking? BTW Thanks very much for your suggestion to use this function, it works a treat! Purg Posted July 31, 2016 Posted July 31, 2016 Absolutely no expert myself but I use it incrementally. It's not VA doing the forward scroll but in-game DCS via UI Layer. I'm sure the same could be achieved through VA just as easily if you defined a button to scroll continuously while you hold it down.

WarHorsey Posted December 31, 2016 Posted December 31, 2016 Is there any way to make the UI Layer - Mouse Scroll Wheel repeat or pulse rather than having to repeatedly press my physical HOTAS button? The current implementation is great for buttons and switches, but adjusting the Course or Heading knobs isn't practical. Cheers, - Horsey
Johnny Dioxin Posted December 31, 2016 Author Posted December 31, 2016 (edited) If you use the profiling software for your HOTAS, a repeat function would do the job. Would be good if ED would put a repeat function on the controls. I just bought the X-56, which has a rotary encoder wheel on the throttle, and it's perfect for the UI mousewheel. being able to limit the time they're visible would be great too. I'm finding these increasingly annoying - going to have to scour the files for some setting to change this. There must be one somewhere that dictates the amount of time the tooltips are visible for. Might take a long time to find it, though (unless someone from ED/modders chimes in. Hint, hint ;) ) Edited December 31, 2016 by Brixmis Rig: Asus TUF GAMING B650-PLUS; Ryzen 7800X3D ; 64GB DDR5 5600; RTX 4080; VPC T50 CM2 HOTAS; Pimax Crystal Light I'm learning to fly - but I ain't got wings With my head in VR - it's the next best thing!
