Week 6 Status Report

Desperate times…

As the war trudges on and resources get low, desperate measures are sometimes taken. The Allies this day seems to have done just that. They decided to try a daring attack with all of their fighters, directly against the axis airfield. An eagle eyed axis patrol spotted them as they tried to fly a low level flanking attack. The axis patrol was able to down a couple of the Allied mustangs, but more slipped through and continued on for the airfield.

Meanwhile other Axis patrols were searching for the Allied bombers, but they were nowhere to be found. The Allied fighters finally reached their target and commenced the attack. They met heavy resistance from both the Axis fighters and ground defense. They were able to do some decent damage, but paid a heavy cost as not a single Allied fighter made it home.

About this time, the Allied bombers commenced their attack on both the Axis airfield and industrial center from an extreme altitude. Being that the Axis fighters were dealing with the low flying fighters, they reached their targets unharmed and were able to do some light damage. Apparently the altitude affected their aim as you would expect unmolested bombers to be more effective. Some Axis fighters were able to climb up and finally engage the bombers, but the damage had already been done. Bomber gunners were able to hold them off, though one B-17 finally did go down. The Axis fighters also took some losses in the bloody affair.

The Axis then commenced their attack on their regular schedule. You could set your watch to them. They threw all they had into attacking the Allied industrial center, well prepared to deal with Allied fighters defending it. Yet, all they met was ferocious flak. The flak was almost thick enough to walk on as it tore into the bombers taking down a good number of them and even an Axis fighter. But, where were the Allied fighters? The remaining bombers were able to do significant damage to the industrial center nonetheless and turned for home never to see a Mustang. Axis fighters quickly realised the allies must be trying another ground attack, but to which targets? They quickly raced back to home field and still no enemy fighters? Getting low on fuel, they had to throttle back to try and save every last drop in case they did show up. And show up they did again, trying to hit the airfield with everything they had. Again, the combination of ground defenses and enemy fighters made them pay a heavy price. The Allies were able to do even more damage to the airfield, but once again, not a single Allied fighter made it back home.

The Allies managed some significant damage in their daring raid and paid a severe price for it. Can the Axis put enough aircraft together in what’s left of their airfield? Do the Allies have any fighters left? Will this war ever end…..

Good shots Shahdoh and this week was an excellent time :). Varied tactics by the Allies kept us Axis pilots on our toes and second guessing ourselves all night :).

We got lucky spotting the fighters coming in for a low altitude flanking attack on our base and did a decent job of making them pay for the opportunity but they did get there and did some damage. The bombers though... We were running low on fuel (I actually ran out) and they came in completely unopposed.

Good work Allies :).

If we hadn't spotted the fighters early it would have been a LOT worse for us.

Well planned.

Nvidia RTX3080 (HP Reverb), AMD 3800x

Asus Prime X570P, 64GB G-Skill RipJaw 3600

Saitek X-65F and Fanatec Club-Sport Pedals (Using VJoy and Gremlin to remap Throttle and Clutch into a Rudder axis)
