SharpeXB Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 I'm doing the CSAR mission for The Enemy Within Campaign. It asks you to use the UHF radio in ADF mode to find the downed pilot First question, does this actually work in DCS? the flight manual says no. "ADF. The ADF mode allows the UHF radio to act as an automatic direction finding device. When in this mode, the UHF radio disables guard and transceiver functions. ADF information from the UHF radio will then be sent to the ADI and HSI to provide steering information. No function." I've tried using it and Bearing Pointer 1 on the HSI appears to be receiving a signal. But it won't stay pointed consistently in a direction, it moves as I try to turn towards it. So it doesn't seem to work. I figured the way to find the pilot would be to just follow the bearing until the needle flips, than I'll know I've overflown him and just drop a mark point there. But no luck. I can't get a steady bearing on the HSI. i9-14900KS | ASUS ROG MAXIMUS Z790 HERO | 64GB DDR5 5600MHz | iCUE H150i Liquid CPU Cooler | ASUS TUF GeForce RTX 4090 OC | Windows 11 Home | 2TB Samsung 980 PRO NVMe | Corsair RM1000x | LG 48GQ900-B 4K OLED Monitor | CH Fighterstick | Ch Pro Throttle | CH Pro Pedals | TrackIR 5
Corvus Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 UHF-ADF mode works for sure, but for a needle to be steady you need a constant signal received through UHF. It's quite easy to test it out. Contact tower on UHF freq and after that switch UHF radio to ADF mode. When tower responds you will see bearing pointer move on HSI. 1 My YT channel https://www.youtube.com/user/corvuscorp81
