As i understand the "score" system for Multiplayer missions (PVP or PVE), the scores are assigned to a Plane. Not the player.

So in the events of a player scoring A2G kills in a Hog, sustaining pretty bad damage, RTBing and swaping to another plane; the said player loses his score because the plane is left.

But there are multiple instances and references (books, articles...) that mention the fact that pilots would sometimes come back to base with less than ideal plane conditions. Instead of waiting for fixes, rearms and such, they'd simply jump into another plane and take off again.

This should be the same in DCS. But right now, when we swap plane, we lose the scores.

The only way to circumvent this, is to reload the same plane, which is less than ideal if you run mission/campaign with limited ressources.

I would prefer that there's more server settings, for these kind of things.

And this would perhaps be easier to implement when the dedicated servers come? =)

Hopefully yeah.

Just for a sake of the discussion I'll play a devils advocate and ask if the scoring system is something that is needed in the simulator. If yes how it should look like?

I would say that a good scoring system should assign points for correctly executing the mission orders and fallowing the flight procedures. It could also penalize otherwise. Than the track record of achievements and negative actions should be persisted in the pilots log.

As an example, CAS should be getting points for fallowing mission objectives while going after targets which the flight was not tasked to engage should be considered as disobeying the orders and thus penalized.

Same for fighters, if being tasked of protecting air cover to escorted flight they should be getting points only for neutralizing enemy being an immediate thread to it. Chasing other flights just because they're enemy and leaving escorted flight to be an easy prey should result in negative score.

Considering procedures points could be granted for instance for correctly flying the landing pattern while for going cowboy style and touching down without any clearance should result in negative score.

Those are just a few examples to illustrate the point that overall system focused on mission goals would promote playing the objectives. It would also be more fair as the points wouldn't be dependent on the airplane that the pilot is flying. If it comes down only to killing the stuff an A-10 bomb truck pilot has much more potential for achieving higher scores than Sabre or the transport chopper pilot.
