minimi66 Posted September 1, 2016 Posted September 1, 2016 Hi folks, Been away from the sim for a few months and decided to do a full update prior to jumping back in. Downloaded the latest updater and dropped it into the \bin folder of my 2.0 Alpha install, that updated fine. Did the same with 1.5 Beta install folder and left the updater running while i went out for a while. Came back and lo and behold Windows 10 had one an update and re-started my pc mid-DCS update!!!! It didn't complete as the DCS.exe version is not the one specified on the updates page and theres a bunch of files in the Beta install that have not been updated as per the ones in my Alpha folders. Trouble is i tried running the updater again 1.5 Beta and now it doesn't update it just starts the sim up??? Multiple attempts and definitely using the most recent updater but no luck? Any ideas chaps? Thanks. Steggles Posted September 1, 2016 Posted September 1, 2016 (edited) Open a command prompt and navigate it to your install/bin/ directory. Run dcs_updater update EDIT: If you Shift+right click on the bin folder in explorer, you can open the command prompt from there. minimi66 Posted September 2, 2016 Author Posted September 2, 2016 Thanks guys! I remembered about the command prompt as soon as i read your post! I knew there was another way to get the Updater kick-started. Thanks anyway! And yeah, i disabled Automatic Windows Updates before i even posted! Lesson learnt!! Thanks. BitMaster Posted September 2, 2016 Posted September 2, 2016 you were either not paying attention to what Win10 wrote on the screen....30min till reboot.... and/or your settings for when to install updates/upgrades needs to be adjusted. Win10 has a higher tendency to do things while in the background than 8 or 7 had. If you see your CPU beyond 22-25% while in DCS your Win10 has something to do ( Antivirus Scanning soon after restart is a common thing to happen under the hood ). Watch your table of processes and understand what is going on and what causes it, aka can fix it. minimi66 Posted September 2, 2016 Author Posted September 2, 2016 Er? Thanks for the bollocking!! But i DO understand what Windows is telling me when it is about to do an update/reboot etc etc.... If you read my initial post carefully you would have seen that i was out of the house when said update/reboot etc. took place without my knowledge until i returned. I fully understood the nature of the Windows 10 Update issue just not how to get DCS 1.5 Beta update progress to complete? An issue that was helpfully and quickly solved in a non-patronising manner by the guys above! Also, as per my reply above, having become aware of what had happened on my return i went into Windows 10 Computer Management > Services and disabled the Windows Update Service so that the issue will not occur in the future. And i did all of this without my Mummy or Daddy holding my hand for me!! Jeez!!! I'm 50 years old, a former Marine Communications Technician and have been using MS operating systems since MS-DOS 6.0!! Thank you!! 1 Windows 10 Pro 64-bit - Intel Core i9-13900K - 64GB Corsair Vengeance RAM @ 3200 MHz - ASUS TUF GAMING B660-PLUS WIFI D4 - Zotac NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 - 2TB INTEL NVMe SSD (Windows 10) - Samsung SSD 970 EVO Plus 1TB (DCS) - Crucial CT1000 1TB NVMe SSD - WinWing F-16EX Stick - WinWing Orion Throttle Base with both F-18 & F-16C TQS Throttle Grips - Saitek Pro Rudder Pedals - Logitech G-910 Keyboard - Logitech G-502 Lightspeed Mouse - Logitech G-533 Headset - Occulus Quest Pro VR - TrackIR 5 with Track Clip Pro
