Texture Edit: Renumbered R-828 Dial

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

The placard on the canopy frame and the R-828 communication radio dial have been off-by-one for a long time. I was installing a fan-made texture edit which aligned the placard numbers to the radio when I thought, "Hold on, maybe it's better to align the radio to the placard."

Attached is Mig-21-cockpit_014.tga.dds from MiG-21_Cockpit.zip in \DCS\Mods\aircraft\MIG-21BIS\Textures edited to place the dial labels 0 through 19 in different spots so they read 1-20. I updated the alpha layer and did my best to replicate the original style of texture. I did not test it under all lighting conditions so let me know if something looks weird.

Installation can be a simple as extracting the MiG-21_Cockpit.zip into a folder of that name and replacing the texture with the provided one. The engine will read the folder files preferentially over the zipped archive. Alternatively the folder with the replaced texture can be re-zipped to replace the original zip (backup suggested) and that should work too.

The texture is read equally by native and English livery options and thus works in both.

Doesn't the mission editor have 0-23? It's been a long time since I've looked there.

One would have thought this discrepancy would have been fixed by now, either your way or the one that was fan fixed nearly two years ago. I'm at work and can't get to the bug-tracker, has this ever been acknowledged by LS?

The editor lists them as 00 through 19. I can't change that.

I changed the radio dial instead of the placard because I thought the radio is numbered 1-20 instead of 0-19 (or is it 1-19,0?). That might be wrong in which case the best fix is to change the placard. I looked at maybe a hundred pictures and a dozen manuals and I never saw "0" or "20" displayed or mentioned. I saw 1, 3, 4, 5, 7, 14, 19... but never a 0 or a 20.

I think personally I'm going to go enact the placard fix and undo this one. But first I'm going to fix the radio model in the title.

It has been acknowledged by LNS and they totally said it was going to be in the next patch (about 4 patches ago) and it never happened. I actually thought I had screwed up my version somehow and missed the change due to something I did wrong.

I have no idea why I wrote 23... I must have been distracted at that moment.

It's unfortunate that something this simple hasn't been altered yet.
