Redacuragsr Posted September 21, 2016 Posted September 21, 2016 So i had my Rift for a little while now and definitely love this thing, however I am getting to the point where the lack of resolution starts to be a little bothersome, and I find my self switching to the 4k monitor just to remember how beautiful DCS really looks. I know people are going to say that immersion is worth it and they would never go back to their monitor after the Oculus, and for the most part its true, but I am a graphics whore and sometimes just need a taste of 4k. Basically what I am saying is that I want a new higher resolution next gen VR head set already and was wondering what is currently in development that is worth paying attention to? New types of displays? On board GPU's? Eye tracking? Higher FOV? I am aware of companies like StartVR and FOVE, but would be interested to know what other people are paying attention to. Here are some links that I found interesting. Please share what you think has potential. Thanks a lot. http://www.virtualrealitytimes.com/2015/03/06/tech-company-takes-spotlight-at-gdc-2015-with-mind-controlled-vr-technology/
PiedDroit Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 (edited) I'm also following this kind of stuff as I can't get a Rift right now but will probably get something soon. So far FOVE seems the most interesting to me for DCS as it looks pretty similar to Rift/Vive except with slightly higher resolution, which is all the two other I cited are lacking at the moment. OSVR and VRVANA look nice but they're not bringing much improvement in that area (given their current specs). Well, they both have RGB screen instead of pentile, maybe this will make them better. Starvr looks great for the FOV but I'd rather go for pixel density instead of FOV. There are also other systems with higher resolution but I have doubts they will be useable for DCS (VR820, PIMAX). P.S.: So far I tried OR DK1, DK2, CV1 with pixel density 1.0 and 2.5 Edited September 24, 2016 by PiedDroit 1
Redacuragsr Posted September 27, 2016 Author Posted September 27, 2016 Thank you for the info PiedDroit. I haven't heard of PIMAX before, but it does look pretty interesting and shows some promise. I do agree that it might not be usable in DCS in the near future, but I think with time DCS will have a wider VR support.....at least I hope. I am surprised that I don't see anything in development that would leverage the power of an on board GPU together with high end graphics cards in the PC, that would definitely provide many flexabilities and advantages such as lower barrier to entry if some one doesn't have a high end system as well as additional graphical processing power for those that already have high end systems and would like to maximize their resolution even further.
