Hi Zeus,

today, I tested to switch a target after I launched the Super 530D, to attack a second target.

Theoretically, this should be possible. SARH missiles (A/A and SAM) are guided by the principle, because their passiv radar detects the reflected radar energy from the target, which is illuminated by the plattforms radar (aircraft, ground based tracking radar).

So, if I switch my target and the radar reflections are within the gimbal limits of the missiles seeker, it should "see" them and manouver (provided there is enough kinetic energy left) to the new target.

But as I de-locked the first target, my missile was dead and flew straight in. I attached two ingame tracks and the tacview file.

Is this a bug or did I something wrong?

EDIT: I tested it in SP and thought, DCS saves the singleplayer tracks automatically?! As it seems, this isn't so.

I didn't watch the track, but in most cases this is not a correct assumption. By unlocking the target you terminate any missile datalink, and the missile itself is only going to try and search a volume according to its target recovery programming. It will NOT search its gimbal space. In other words, it might work the target aircraft are close together, but otherwise no.

Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D

I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda

Agreed, and that is how it works ATM from my point of view.

I have had situations where I lost STT for a few seconds and once I reaquired the target the missile did go for the target.

But only in some limited cases, where the track of the bandit didnt change all to much.

*unexpected flight behaviour* Oh shiii*** ! What ? Why ? What is happening ?
