Jazz_44 Posted October 26, 2016 Posted October 26, 2016 For those of you who use the Rift, does the V-Sync, Full Screen and MSAA (Ant Aliasing) options in the graphics menu make a difference? When I was using a monitor, Vsync was a must to avoid the "tearing effect", MSAA improved the overall image quality (no jagged lines) and full screen was also good for obvious reasons. But are these settings important for VR? Since the image quality is not as good as a monitor. Thanks

VR-Hunter Posted October 27, 2016 Posted October 27, 2016 MSAA gives you same effect as in a monitor. In VR optimal MSAA is 4x, higher values cost too much FPS and picture quality doesn´t not improve so much. V-Sync - dont know. Full screen is useful to keep mouse inside DCS and not to active other window/program.
johnco61 Posted October 27, 2016 Posted October 27, 2016 V-sync does nothing, that is taken care of by the rift, if i select full screen it does nothing for me but if you want full screen L Alt + ent key will give you that although the screen is stretched. The full screen stops you from clicking out of the sim area which is a common problem in dcs when using the clickable cockpit, there is an option you can select in the VR tab to keep the pointer in the sim area but that doesn't work for me either
Neldrion Posted October 28, 2016 Posted October 28, 2016 When I select Fullscreen in VR Mode, the image on the 2D Monitor is not shown in fullscreen, but internally it counts as fullscreen because my mouse now always stays in game. V-Sync has no effect in VR. I tried MSAA, in my opinion it doesn't change the quality in VR but it slows performance significantly. JaBoG32_Prinzartus Posted October 28, 2016 Posted October 28, 2016 I also tend to think that MSAA, vsync, and fuul screen are totally ihnored by rift's SDK, as it bypases gpu settings in general. Just an educated guess. Windows 10, I7 8700k@5,15GHz, 32GB Ram, GTX1080, HOTAS Warthog, Oculus Rift CV1, Obutto R3volution, Buttkicker [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] ЯБоГ32_Принз
Milopapa Posted October 31, 2016 Posted October 31, 2016 Hang on just a minute - MSAA in VR DOES work and it's much needed to eliminate horizontal jaggies. I use 4x as anything less is just plain ugly and breaks immersion for me big time. Neldrion Posted November 1, 2016 Posted November 1, 2016 You are right, tested MSAA in VR again and it does make a difference. For example buildings are not flickering so much. The only problem I see with MSAA 4x is that my performance drops significantly. MSAA 2x is ok. I will attach my actual VR settings. I havent foun the right settings yet. I judge my setting not on a mission in free flight without enemy and freindly units. I test my settings in a full SU-25T campaign mission with many enemy units. Milopapa Posted November 3, 2016 Posted November 3, 2016 I'd drop visibility to Low and up MSAA. I'm not getting stable 90fps on my 980Ti so I just upped settings to make it look better while holding a steady 45fps, since I'm in reprojection anyway. I have visibility on Low, but cockpit shadows turned on as I feel it adds a lot to immersion. Otherwise, similar settings. I never fly missions though, only free flight.
