rossto1965 Posted October 28, 2016 Posted October 28, 2016 Hi, I am new to DCS and have been working to learn the SU-25T. I have been using the training missions and following the Robert Sogomonian tutorials on Youtube One thing that I cannot seem to get right is locking on a target using the TV system. Sometimes it works like a charm and other times when I hit the "lock" button (return key) it pops the aiming pipper back to the starting point. I have even tried to do an active-pause to figure out what is going on... no luck. I am sure that it is something simple. Any ideas? Thanks! Tom
mvsgas Posted October 28, 2016 Posted October 28, 2016 Make sure the return key is not assigned to another key/task. To whom it may concern, I am an idiot, unfortunately for the world, I have a internet connection and a fondness for beer....apologies for that. Thank you for you patience. Many people don't want the truth, they want constant reassurance that whatever misconception/fallacies they believe in are true..
Kang Posted October 28, 2016 Posted October 28, 2016 There are only two reasons for the system to return to the boresight (default) position: one is hitting the corresponding key. As mvsgas said, make sure that you haven't somehow mapped the key twice. The other reason is your locked target leaving the camera slew limits: if you lock to a point while the Shkval is, say, at the rightmost point of its movements and you lock during a slight turn to the left, it is going to lose the lock and revert to boresight.
mj3437 Posted October 29, 2016 Posted October 29, 2016 (edited) I have had problems locking if the target frame size is not correct. See pages 30, 31 of the Su-25T Manual. This may depend on munitions being used, but I don't think so. See part 8 of the series you linked to. "The TV target frame size, corresponding to the expected target size in meters, is displayed in the upper left corner. In the figure above the expected target size has been entered as 10 m. Armored vehicles are about 10 meters in size, aircraft may be from 10 to 60 meters, and ships and buildings usually require the 60 meter setting. The target is automatically locked only if the target in the cursor is within 5 meters of the expected target size, with the exception of targets larger than 60 meters that can still be locked with the maximum setting of 60 m. The expected target size and cursor size are adjusted with [RCtrl-]] and [RCtrl-[]." rossto1965 Posted October 31, 2016 Author Posted October 31, 2016 (edited) Thanks, I will try these suggestions. I am sure it will be something simple. Well, went back and re-watched the tutorial... turns out that I do not have to hit the "lock" key on every target. just move the sight on to the targett and the system does the rest! :) So much better.... Onward and upward. Edited November 2, 2016 by rossto1965
