Zoltar Posted October 11, 2006 Posted October 11, 2006 Hi guys, I am working with Air to Air gunnery now a days. I can fly to the much talked of "High Six" or "Elbow" position of the Bandit pretty regularly. The problem is I can't stabilize the gun site (the circle with the aiming cross) on the bandit. By the time i stabilise the gun sight, the bandit makes a hard turn and escapes. I often fly SU-27 agains F-16C or F-15. It will be great if someone can share some tips or a couple of tracks showing the technique. Thanks. :pilotfly:
PFMM Posted October 11, 2006 Posted October 11, 2006 Well, I'm not any good but I reckon your probably making the common mistake of trying to follow the target with the pipper. DON"T. Prejudge your target's actions and be there for him. As for tracks, you can't go wrong by viewing the Fortis cup championship tracks, it's all guns, it's all good and it's available here; http://www.european-dogfightcup.com/ In particular watch the finals tracks.Spooky. 1
Zoltar Posted October 11, 2006 Author Posted October 11, 2006 Thanks PFMM. I will go through the tracks. Thanks again for sharing the information.

Ukr_Alex Posted October 15, 2006 Posted October 15, 2006 I had the same problem however Im ok now. I made the mistake as mentioned before of following the target with the piper. And making big adjustments with my joystick once again trying to follow. What I do now is simply wait for the enemy to cross my piper itself and then fire. Once I see him starting to move into my sight I prefire and usualy get a hit. But you always want to shoot slighty ahead of the direction that the enemy is moving in. But Im talking "slight" so these are all very fine movements that someone watching you from the back wouldnt even notice. P.S And is it just me or its more common to simply load up FBP put the AI to excelent and do "guns only" battles? I find my self doing this 70% of my lomac play time. :Core2Duo @ 435FSB x 7 3.05GHz : ATI x1900xtx: 2GB Patriot @ 435Mhz : WD 250Gb UATA: Seagate 320Gb SATA2: X-Fi Platinum:
Ardillita Posted October 16, 2006 Posted October 16, 2006 Right. For dogfight, do not try to follow the enemy with the piper, that MAY work SOMETIME (very few actually) with normal IA, very few with execelent IA, but almost never will work with a human pilot (good level, not execlent level required), because he will be always flyeing with errtic maneouvers, so any time he is on the piper, he would already had started another maneouver and you will spoil bullets. Try this (as just and example)supose you have gained an advatage position, you are aproaching the bandits´ 5 . Try to get here with good energy (you will need it to pull some Gs in the next movement). Aim his tail and start fireing in the direction he is moveing to and pull Gs moveing your nose in a lead persuit course, so your bullets will in some point hit him. You won´t miss. This is just 1 of many ways of aprouching bandits´ 6 to make a shoot, I recomend you to read this book: Naval Institute - Shaw - Fighter Combat - Tactics and Maneuvering It is excellent and will help you a lot Hope this information is usefull for you
Zoltar Posted October 16, 2006 Author Posted October 16, 2006 Thanks a lot guys. Can someone oblige me with a track to demo the "Technique"?
