Silver_Dragon Posted November 22, 2016 Posted November 22, 2016 (edited) Other test video show some mismatch on chaparral system (not sound by recording problems). XsFc0vJQCX8 - MIM-72 missiles has not aligned with the missile rails, that has aligned with the vertical plain (17:55 minute on the video). - M-48 Chaparral can´t fire on movement. The launcher has stowed face aft and lowered over the M-54 Platform (Chaparral fire unit) carried by the M730 carrier. (FM-44-4 page 1-17) When stop and has deployed, the M-54 system need run a gasoline power unit (TM-9-1425-1585-10-1 page 2-14 to 2-15) to operate and raise the turret to the firing position (FM 44-4 page 1-17). - The M-54 has equipped with a reflex sight, calibrate with a double circle and cross sight. The inner circle has calibrate to a target size type Mig-23 making a lateral run at a distance of 1200 metres and 580 knots (That mark the optimal fire distance to the MIM-72). (FM-44-4 page 7-18) - The M-54 carried 12 missiles, 4 on rails and 8 stowed (2 recharges, not 1 as show in the CA) into a compartment on the base platform (FM 44-4 Page 1-3). - The M-54 has a internal fire control panel with a clock reference system (12 front, 6 aft, etc). - Crew members (2 observers, driver and Squad leader), deploy on pairs (observer and SL on Command post) and (Observer and driver on Observation post) to help the gunner to detect targets (FM 44-4 3-5 to 3-18) - MIM-72 IR tone has descripted on FM 44-4 page 3-13. - Chaparral use the same IFF system with the stinger missile (FM 44-2 Page 2-10 to 2-14) Some remarks: - The M-730 carries can use as troop / Cargo transport is M-54 has removed. - The M-54 Platform can be airlifted by helicopter transport by sling as a independent missile fire post, whit four legs to deploy independly. (FM 44-4 Page 1-2 and TM-55-1425-585-15-1 Page 4-1 to 4-10) - The Chaparral system (as another air defense units) can receibe warning alert by FAAR radar and TADDS radio system on FM 44-3, L-2 to L-12 and Page 4-5 to 4-7 Chaparral / Vulcan video. Chaparral use on 2:39. Clockwise sight, reticule reflective sight and missile Tone on 4:00 and 4:30, FAAR radar and TADDS radio show on 1:55 to 2:11. sDJ4UgvGj6c References: Field Manual FM 44-3 US Army Air Defense Artillery Employment.
