Tj1376 Posted December 19, 2016 Posted December 19, 2016 During either a cheat start or a manual cold start, once GEN 1 is flipped to ON there is a god awful constant tone similar to the low rpm tone in the Huey. What is this, why is it sounding off and how do I stop it? Its not low rotor RPM, I am following the instructions in the quick start manual and I've got the collector / throttle to max and Main Rotor RPM has stabilized at 95%. I thought it was odd to turn off the APU before engaging the generators, so I've tried it both ways (APU off, then Gen1 & 2 on - no dice, horrible tone sounds. APU still ON, Gen 1 & 2 on, (tone starts) APU off) I've even turned on the Radar altimeter and let it go through its checks and then zero'd it out to turn that alarm off... Just to make sure it wasn't that either. I really want to learn how to fly this aircraft so Im bummed I cant figure out what this hideous noise is! Any help is most appreciated! (running most up to date DCS 1.5 and just downloaded the MI8 this morning.) TJ
Art-J Posted December 19, 2016 Posted December 19, 2016 Truth to be told, there should be absolutely no additional sound when generators are flipped on and all the rest is done by the book. I gather You didn't install any sound mods for Mi-8? Can You record a short clip and post it on youtube? I'm specifically not requesting posting a recorded replay track from the game, because it would play different on our computers anyway and your issue might be hardware-related. Does the sound appear during startup tutorial mission as well? Do You use any sound mods for any DCS modules (I'm thinking about some compatibility issues)? i7 9700K @ stock speed, single GTX1070, 32 gigs of RAM, TH Warthog, MFG Crosswind, Win10.

I have Moltar's v5 mod pack installed and it is the culprit. Not sure if its something wrong with his pack or if I left it installed when I ran the download of the MI8 (I had no idea it even had MI8 sounds in it.) Removing the mod pack and trying again removed the god awful sound. Adding it back and starting her up again brought the sound back. In looking at his mod pack, there is no way it should be the culprit (he only updates Engine and Rotor sounds for the mi8.) I have no idea why it causes this loud annoying tone when Gen1 is flipped on... I've even deleted the MI8 folder out of his mod pack and re-enabled it and the problem is still there. :( Im off to uninstall the mods and run a repair to see if it fixes. TJ
Art-J Posted December 19, 2016 Posted December 19, 2016 Most probably, Mi-8, apart from its own samples, uses some generic DCS ones, or even some of the samples from other modules (as it is with MiG-21 for example, which uses some engine samples of Su-25 and cannon sample of Gazelle if I recall correctly). In that case, Moltar's mod might inadvertently affect some aircraft it wasn't supposed to, Mi-8 in this particular case. That's always a risk with these packs. i7 9700K @ stock speed, single GTX1070, 32 gigs of RAM, TH Warthog, MFG Crosswind, Win10.

Yup- looks like a sound he modified for another aircraft is the problem. Should anyone else run into this issue, go to the following folder: \_Mods\!Moltar's RvE Mods for DCS V5 Picksking's Textures\Sounds\Effects\Aircrafts\Cockpits and delete the following file: Avionics_AC_400HZ (leave the similarly titled US one) TJ
