A Question For Ship Modders.....

As I understand it, the beautiful CVN-74 G W Bush that we fly off of with the F/A-18 mod is a beautifully made model placed onto an invisable Admiral Kusnetsov. I have no doubt that this is an extremely oversimplified explanation for how it is really done but nonetheless, there is no mistaking the ramp at the end and all of the areas on the flight deck that you can fall through if you wander around too much. My question is, would it not be possible to place that same beautiful model on top of the stock CVN-70, Carl Vinson? I was given to understand that the Kussnetsov was used because of the ramp aiding the launch due to the Vinson's lack of catapults. Well, I did some tests and found that a fairly heavily loaded Hornet could launch from the Vinson pretty easily with about 35 knots of wind over the deck. The arresting gear works as advertised and, it has a full sized CVN carrier deck that can be used to taxi on and park as it was intended. It would not need to have all of those Hornets parked along the starboard side to keep you out of the catwalks, although I do like seeing the deck populated with additional planes and equipment.

 

Some might say, "Just relax, the ED CVN is just around the corner." But I think that corner is further down the road than we might think. If this could be done with the Vinson and Bush in a short period of time, we would have something a little more realistic to pla.....er, practice on until the real deal shows up. :pilotfly:

Can't answer the question Razor but if you want a working US Carrier try this, its just Tomcatz superb CVN cloned over the Vinsen in the same sort of way they cloned the Bush over the Kutznetzov. It has the same limitations as the in game Vinsen, none of the additional stuff they have managed to stick on USS Bush, but it might be enough for you:

I only run 1.5.4 but as far as I know it did work in 1.5.5. HMS Furious is fictional of course.

Thanks Crazyeddie! I'll definitely give it a try when I get home. When you say it doesn't have the additional stuff they put on the Bush, are you referring to the deck lighting and IFOLS?

Not sure exactly Razor, I do not have the Bush Mod. I'm not 100% sure what extras they added to their model.

 

These 2 just have the same things as the in game Vinsen, but its a much better model and a much better deck paintjob than the original. Tomcatz gave me permission to update the files to edm format and release it ages ago and the link got lost. Cats and Wires are the same as in game model.

 

If you want the full Bush immersion model you will have to stick with that, sorry.

I just got home last night and downloaded the GHW Bush CDPKobra, and found the deck lighting to be a little skewed. Not in line with the landing area. No matter though, the rest is beautiful. Thanks!! Happy New Year too!! :yay::beer::puke:
