How I solved my game freezing issue

Hello and happy new year to all of you!

 

 

This is how I solved my game freezing issue (on 1.5.5 i.e. the latest version of 1.5).

 

 

The problem:

After a fews minutes of flying (and sometimes even in the menu) the game freezes solid. The white hourglass appears and the computer is frozen solid. The computer needs to be switch off manually. Nothing appears in either the DCS nor the window log.

That same problem appears regardless of the module (and also on 2.x version)

 

The solution:

After trying a lot of things(re-installing the game, drivers, updating the firmware of the SSD, making sure page file in auto, disabling the HT of my CPU, updating the BIOS) , my problem was traced to the OC of the computer.

If I use "optimised value in my BIOS", the sim seems to run without any issues (3.7Ghz @ 1.105V). As soon as I OC above that (even a little such 4.0Ghz) I start running into the freezes. My OC seem stable vs the usual stress tests (they survive 1 to 2 hours of RealBench and Prime95). Those OC also cause no issues with other sims such P3Dv3. But for what ever reason they don't work with DCS. In the past (I paused using the sim for a few months)I have never experience such problems.

I have seen this before with others who have OC systems, including myself when I was running my old rig.

 

My current system is all stock values and I never seem to have any issues.

I'd love to read from people that managed a successful and stable OC for DCS (i.e. what MOBO/BIOS/CPU/Cooler and OC parameters they managed to run)

My home practically backs on to the fence, constant helicopter's coming and going :)

 

With the OC'ing I have seen some users with good results, however it depends on so much, hardware / bios/ drivers. It is a minefield :)

Hello

 

Quick note on the above. I managed to push my OC pass my optimised settings i.e. (3.7 Ghz). The only changes I did are:

 

update to 1.5.6

doubled the ram on my system (from 16 to 32 GB)

 

I can fly full missions (1h+) with no freezes.
