Gault05
Heard that the Enterprise has been decommissioned. She was the very first aircraft carrier I learned about, and so it's kinda sad to see her go. Rangi
Is coming home a euphemism for being cut up for scrap? A bit like we say passed away for people dying? PC: 6600K @ 4.5 GHz, 12GB RAM, GTX 970, 32" 2K monitor.
Gault05
Is coming home a euphemism for being cut up for scrap? A bit like we say passed away for people dying? That, becoming a museum, or sinking it to become an artificial reef, in which I'm strongly against the third option, but could well see the second being useful, given the Enterprise' history. Rangi
Maybe the Chinese would like another "floating hotel" ..... It would be nice to save it for something useful but it's a lot of real estate and resources to pay for the upkeep on. On a brighter note I see they have put out more contracts for the new USS Enterprise. Up to CVN-80 already, how time flies.... https://globenewswire.com/news-release/2017/02/01/912995/0/en/PHOTO-RELEASE-Huntington-Ingalls-Industries-Receives-Contract-to-Kick-Off-Advance-Fabrication-of-Aircraft-Carrier-Enterprise-CVN-80.html PC: 6600K @ 4.5 GHz, 12GB RAM, GTX 970, 32" 2K monitor. Gault05
Update on the Enterprise, she's not being a museum, nor being sunk. They're moving her to become the new Gerald Ford-class aircraft carriers. She'll also be the ninth version to set sail when completed.
