Hello,

Quick question on lock warning :

Do other planes get a warning when I lock them in TWS mode (or is it just in STT) and reciprocally do I get a warning if another mirage TWS me ?

Thanks

They shouldn't if you press lock once, which switches to TWS mode. Only when you press the lock button again which switches to STT mode should they get a warning tone. Assuming it's the same if you are in a Mirage and are the target. Haven't tested the latter recently so can't verify at the moment.

No lock warning for TWS, only STT. Keep in mind that when a 530 is launched from TWS the radar automatically switches to STT for guidance. So the target is warned as soon as the missile is fired.

Pay close attention on the target:

When you soft-lock him - nothing happens

When you hard-lock him - u will see a lot of countermeasures popping of his aircraft.

I would recommend to hard-lock the target just before you reach lunch authorization.

Have a nice flight ;)

I believe there is a difference between hard lock and actual 530 launch. I think TWS gave no sound alarm just RWR direction, STT gives long tone and RWR direction, 530 launch gives screaming alarm and RWR direction.

Of course unless u approach through enemy RWR blindspot, then he got no idea whatsoever unless spotted visually :P

In TWS the radar does not change its RF emissions because it is still in search mode. The only difference is that it is internally tracking a single contact from all the others.

When you change to STT (Single Target Track) in order to guide weapons, the radar RF emissions change. It is this change in the RF that a RWR detects and then sounds the alarm indicating that a radar had gone from search mode (suspicious but not threatening) to track mode (very dangerous).

This is the reason why the new batch of active homing missiles do not need STT. They can be launched while the radar is in TWS so they don't give an early warning to the enemy. Of course they are detected as soon as they turn on their own radars, but that is another issue altogether.
